Members MattS Posted March 28, 2013 Members Posted March 28, 2013 Heading down to the Current tomorrow... Any advice? Plan on fishing between Tan Vat and Baptist and this is my first time seriously fishing this section.
Members mdrstl Posted March 29, 2013 Members Posted March 29, 2013 I had quite a bit of luck yesterday from the swimming hole down swinging light olive crystal bead head wooly buggers during the first part of the day and one on a caddis about noon. I went cold at Babtist in the afternoon, but for a nice brown on a SJ worm, but one of my fishing buddies did well using psyco prince and other nymphs. The water was a great level for fishing.
Outside Bend Posted March 29, 2013 Posted March 29, 2013 Caddis should be going, try tan-bodied Elk-Hair caddis and other dry caddis patterns in 14-18. Smaller parachute Adams and blue quills in 18-20 can also be pretty effective this time of year. Pat's Rubberlegs in the deeper runs and if the water is up, sizes 4-8, Pheasant-tail nymphs are usually pretty productive, Griffith's Gnats too. Mohair leeches and buggers are both pretty consistent. <{{{><
Members salmotrutta Posted March 29, 2013 Members Posted March 29, 2013 Just got back from there this afternoon. The water is perfect. Enjoy. The rainbows were slamming the egg, switched to streamers mid morning, had a few chases but no hook up. Elk hair was getting nice hits late morning. Rubber legs worked well also. Have a great time.
jah Posted March 29, 2013 Posted March 29, 2013 If you're into numbers, it's hard to beat an egg pattern fished on the bottom. You'll mostly only catch stocker rainbows (rare is the brown trout who eats an egg pattern, in my experience), but you should catch quite a few. I'd also try Pats Rubber legs, princes, and stone flies for brown action. Streamers in olive produce well for me, too. Have fun! Jim
ColdWaterFshr Posted March 30, 2013 Posted March 30, 2013 Bring Beer and a hot Woman I usually get this wrong. I bring warm beer and cold women.
Members MattS Posted March 30, 2013 Author Members Posted March 30, 2013 Follow up on my trip. My Dad decided to call a guide at the last minute to show us around. Threw a lot of patterns including multiple midges, scuds, stoneflies, and nymphs. Finally decided to switch to an egg and caught 2, missed a bunch. Slow day for the most part but it was beautiful water and I can't wait until the dry fly bite heats up a little bit.
