Fishing May 2-5 Camdenton

I will be fishing May 2-5 in camdenton for my yearly father son fishing trip.

Any suggestions on coves, lures, depths?

You think they will be in full spawn mode by then?

Crappie are spawning now.

You going after Crappie or Bass? Crappie spawn will probably be dwindling or over by May 2. The Bass should up shallow ad easy to catch though. I'd definitely have a weightless senko tied on as well as a Carolina-rig with a brush hog or lizard. I'd probably give topwater a shot as well (Buzzbait, Prop Bait, Popper, or Spook). Look for the bass behind dock cables or on pea gravel banks. May is the easiest time of the year to catch bass at LOZ. Good luck and let us know how you do.

That Carlina Rig will work great if you throw it up in 5-10 feet of water and avoid the males up shallow. Start with the pea gravel and work back out to the points until you locate them. You will probably have a mix of pre, spawn, and post spawn bass to fish for so keep your options open. For the big fish, use that A Rig when possible.

weather is looking crazy for the trip.....i have no clue what we are going to do. low in the 30s over night and high of 50s is going to really jack things up

I just came back on Sunday after being there for 4 days. I was mostly fishing for crappie but did throw a crankbait and spinnerbait some for bass.

I caught a few decent Spotted bass in the backs of coves on a Lucky Craft jerkbait. But I fished it more like a crankbait then a jerkbait. I was making long cast into 3-5 fow and holding my rod tip up and reeling it in pretty fast with a lot of twitching. You could not really fish anything shallow on the bottom with all the algae that would cling to the bait.

I heard there was an at& t tournament Saturday where it took over 20lbs to win and the winner was using a spinnerbait.

Your correct that the weather is crazy and the spawn is late for bedding bass. We did not see any beds and the water was 55-58 degrees but is probably above 60 by now.

If you want to catch a bunch of fish, the crappie are biting really good right now. For bass i would use a spinnerbait or like braine said the carolina rigged lizard.

I was in a Edward Jones tourney and fished around hurricane MM32. It was miserable weather and we did not do well. However 22.5#'s was weighed in, the said they ran 30+ miles up the osage to MM65 or so. They cought thiers on spinnerbaits and square bills.

Good luck, looks like this weekend will be as rough as last weekend.
