brittsnbirds Posted April 28, 2013 Posted April 28, 2013 After messing with all my fly tying stuff and fly fishing paraphernalia over the last 8 weeks, I have decided to get myself a little more organized. Realizing that I had fly's in a million different boxes I came to the conclusion I need to get control of this situation. Was wondering if anyone has a "neat" system out there to keep inventory of their fly's and accessories for their fly fishing outings? I currently use many boxes, some are stashed in a small Cabela's bag that is stashed in a big tote box. All the remaining boxes get stuffed in the tote box. As well as fly reels, and anything else I need to take. Would appreciate your input!!
laker67 Posted April 28, 2013 Posted April 28, 2013 Pick 6 flies that consistantly catch fish, carry a dozen of each and sell the rest.

Jason R. Posted April 29, 2013 Posted April 29, 2013 I think there are at least two schools of thought- tons of smaller boxes or a few big ones. I have consolidated all mine to a single box per species and I still don't use nearly all of the flies in them. Dang it- I guess the 6 patterns that work is probably the way to go. http://flyinthesouth.com/
Brian Wise Posted April 30, 2013 Posted April 30, 2013 Pick 6 flies that consistantly catch fish, carry a dozen of each and sell the rest. This. I always have MAJOR plans to do this.......but never end up doing it. My problem is WAAAY too many streamers. I have my nymphs in 2 fly boxes and carry at least a dozen of each pattern in up to 4 or 5 colors and that is pretty much it. But I have 4 big Meat Locker streamer boxes and they are pretty much full. I 'am' in a different spot than a lot of people though, I had a client lose probably 8 Double Deceivers on a float the other day. My Youtube Channel

Nortrad Posted May 1, 2013 Posted May 1, 2013 Box 1: rubber legs/small streamers/larger attractor nymphs; Box 2: small nymphs (PTs, czech style, PT variations, attractor nymphs)/attractors (various worms, scuds); Box 3: (small box) caddis variations, mostly pupae; Box 4: streamers; Box 5 (small box): midges, assorted colors, styles, sizes; I pack a lot of choices and usually pre-tie my tandem nymph rigs, so I just change the tandem rig if it's real slow, or just the trailer fly. A lot depends on what I want to do that day, streamers mostly, just in the morning, or, nymph all day. When it warms up more, then terrestrials come in.
brittsnbirds Posted May 1, 2013 Author Posted May 1, 2013 Iade a fatal mistake and watched some YouTube videos of a guy named Wise. He was tying some articulated patterns. He even included his pretty wife and his son. Well I had to get some more materials and get after it. Then I had to order a bigger streamer box! Does it ever end???

Does it ever end??? We need to start a Streamer Support Group. I have neglected my poor nymphs for a couple of years now.....poor, lonely souls only get fished when I have clients in the boat. West Fork Jason Posted May 2, 2013 Posted May 2, 2013 I second the streamer support group. I've gotten to the point where nymphs and dries are something that is to be done when the warm water season is closed... Brian, I still haven't gotten in a drift boat since the Streamer Love Fest and our general opener is pretty much FUBAR - the view out the window a few minutes ago says the whole story...Getting tired of organizing! http://www.WestForkJason.com
