Sore Thumbs Posted May 2, 2013 Posted May 2, 2013 Put in at Rocky Branch about 2:30 and fished til dark. Absolutley tore em up. Caught several bedding fish when the sun was high with little wind. After the wind kicked up I made a run to north Clifty area trying to find clearer water and less wind. Not much luck there as far as wind goes. I took the depth where i was catching the bedding fish and applied that everywhere else. About 3-6 ft of water using a Jika Rig and a 4 inch wat/candy lizard. Caught 30-40 LM and K. Not a lot of size. I would say best 5 went 10-12lbs. Any where in that depth range around a lay down or brush and you were gonna get a bite or a fish. Numbers wise my best day of bass fishing on the Beav. Had a great time.
Quillback Posted May 2, 2013 Posted May 2, 2013 That's an excellent day for the Beav! What was the water clarity in Clifty ad Rocky Branch?
Sore Thumbs Posted May 2, 2013 Author Posted May 2, 2013 Really Good unless wind was blowing or Pollen was on top of the water.
J-Doc Posted May 2, 2013 Posted May 2, 2013 Hey that's a great day on that lake. Catching a ton of decent shorts is better than nothing at all and a ton of fun. We all want the 5lb+ bass but those suckers are just smarter than the average bear and really tough to catch. I think they cruise open water and sometimes with stripers on a random pattern following baitfish that makes them uber-tough to catch. Even when you find them, they won't commit to a bait because they want what THEY want and they eat when they want to. Not out of reaction but just when they feel the urge. That's what makes them big and keeps them healthy. They chase bait all summer long and get big. I'm curious how the bite will be Sunday after this stupid cold front rolls in. I'm betting it's a lock-jaw bite. Need marine repair? Send our own forum friend "fishinwrench" a message. He will treat you like family!!! I owe fishinwrench a lot of thanks. He has been a great mechanic with lots of patience!
Sore Thumbs Posted May 2, 2013 Author Posted May 2, 2013 That is why I went yesterday. Had a gut feeling it was gonna be a good day with those warm days and a cold front moving in. I gaurantee if I could have fished all day I could have caught 100. A bite on dam near every cast. They were in the same depth and cover everywhere I went. Bigger ones came off of steeper pockets about same depth.
