lmt out Posted May 3, 2013 Posted May 3, 2013 Never fished bull shoals family is considering coming down to walleye fish. When would be a good time and what are the prefered methods down there? Any info would be appreciated. thanks Ed
Ham Posted May 3, 2013 Posted May 3, 2013 You should come down and fish. We have two walleye guides that regularly post on the forum. Col. Ron and Mike Worley. I catch more than a few accidental walleye bass fishing, but I think they catch more accidental bass while walleye fishing. I'll let them chime in when they notice this thread since they know their game better than I do. Trolling cranks or bottom bouncing crawlers seem to be very popular. The bite is about to get HOT. powerdive Posted May 3, 2013 Posted May 3, 2013 Ed, just do whatcha did at Stockton. Hit sloping mainlake points, or secondary points and the cups (inside turns) between them, or the edges of flats just above the thermocline, and you'll catch fish. Only thing is, they'll be bigger.
Members Col Ron Posted May 4, 2013 Members Posted May 4, 2013 Ed, To be totally honest with you, now is not a good time, unless you want to night fish. Walleyes are biting at night pounding the banks and points with stick baits. The water is 60 degrees, after this cold front, it will probably go down a few more degrees. We need the water to approach at least 65 to 70 degrees. Last year at this time, we were doing real well, this year, is difficult because of the water conditions. Bull is Gin clear. You can see the bottom at 20 feet which isn't helping either. We are about 3 weeks behind. If I were you, I would consider coming down in late May, June would even be better. Walleye like consistant weather, something we haven't seen this spring. Basically four ways to fish Bull for walleye. Stick baits at night on the banks and points, during the day-trolling crank baits deep (leadcore), Jigs/ jigs & minnows, and bottom bouncing. It is a great lake, we just need more sunshine and warmer temperatures. Good luck
Martin Posted May 4, 2013 Posted May 4, 2013 I agree with Col Ron, Powerdive, and Ham.....And the late May and all of June will be right on I'd think.....Ham's caught more walleyes then me this year and he's bass fishing......lol......You just never know....If a walleye is hungry, and almost any lure goes by, that walleye is going to bite it...
Ham Posted May 4, 2013 Posted May 4, 2013 I've caught three Walleye on Hula Grubs this year. I never expected to catch one, but three? Every Saint has a past, every Sinner has a future. On Instagram @hamneedstofish
