TroutRinger Posted May 8, 2013 Posted May 8, 2013 Got in the water yesterday at 6:00 pm at the 65 ramp and started paddling upstream. Almost to the 60 bridge (just paddling, no fishing), I started thinking this is probably not the best place to go this time of the season...well it wasn't. Didn't get a bite in two hours. Went out again today at 6:00 from the 65 ramp and headed towards the lake. I caught four large mouth (2 small and 2 keepers) fishing the "coves" in about 2-3 feet of water. Caught 2 on white/chartreuse senkos, 1 on black Power Worm, and 1 on a green floating fluke. The worm strike was hard; the other three were very soft. Below is the only picture I got before the batteries died...note to self: change camera batteries from last spring before going back out. Jack Jones Posted May 8, 2013 Posted May 8, 2013 Nice post and nice pic. The temptation is always there to paddle up river when I put in at 65. Don't know why. I'm often skunked there. If I get a chance to go out tomorrow, I take advice from this post and head into the lake. Hey man... I agree that the upper end can be tough at times, however, I have found that when there is a good current coming out of the river, that it stacks feeding fish up along channel breaks and on the downstream sides of cover to ambush. The trick (and the difficulty) for me is to fish up river and bring the bait back with the current, bringing the lures as close to those breaks as possible. Outside of that, I don't do well above the bridge until I actually get to the "river" area, and again I am usually looking for a little bit of moving water. Nice bass, and I certainly appreciate the report! There is certainly something in angling that tends to produce a serenity of the mind. ~Washington Irving
luckycraft Posted May 9, 2013 Posted May 9, 2013 Agreed. The main lake is the place to be. I have been quite a ways up the river where it snakes around a nice log jam up there. Looks like a great place to fish, but again no luck. Bout capsized up there once.
