we rolled in about noon on Wed. after checking in we fished until about 5:30. we fished drifting power baits, drifting worms, and dragging cowbells with worms. the wide and i caught our limits but this took about 5 hours. all of the trout were 9 to 12 inches. most were pink meat. we fished from falll creek to south of monkey island. we ate all you can eat lobster ... only one place in toewn to do this. lobster was not bad. not a 5 star place but it was fun. i got my money's worth.

THursday we fished from about 9 am till a late dinner. we caught 8 rainbows and i caught 1 gernman brown of about 16 inches. we added jigs and jerk baits to the mix this day, we did make a run to the college of the ozarks for biscuit mix and cornmeal. dang good and the wife bought trinkets to help support the kids.

Friday we went to silver dollar city. it had been 20 to 30 years since we last went. we had enjoyed the crafts in the past. we arrived at 9 and ate breakfast. rode the train. rode the ride with a theme of convicts in a flooded mine. walked to try to find the crafts .... ate a funnel cake and left. the last time that i was therre Bruce the gunsmith was there ..... there was a shop on the far end that had looms, etc. now it is more like an amusement park centered on rides. We fished that afternoon and caught 8 to 9 fish total.

Saturday we fished most of the day and caught about 10 fish total. My wife did catch her first ever brown it was about 16 to 17 inches. fat as can be, we ate at Dana;s pulled pork and onion rings. danged good!!!

Sunday AM was cold. we loaded the truck ---- fished across from lilley's and ran to monkey island after it warmed a bit. fished till noon without catching fish. i had never have this happen before ------ then tried to eat at Dana's again but closed on sunday ---ended up at a buffet as we could pull in with the boat.

we just went with it .... when it rained we napped. old cabin 2 at lilley's nothing fancy but it does sleep good. i hope it comes out good after the late year remodel.

did get to watch a deck get hauled up river to lilley's ready for an addition.

the trout under the clean station have grown ---- one was huge!

not many boats at any of the docks nor on the water.

good time - just hard fishing ...... only 1 person talked of really catching fish .... he was the only one. and most of the fish that we cleaned for the 4 days were pink meated. the wife used about a half spoon fiull of oil and sauteed onions and peppers. added about 5 to 7 fillets. served on tortillas with coleslaw, a one pan dish. good eats. we never fired the grill..

be back in Sep when the fishing is better?????

cowbells - who knows what these are? i do carry ford fenders in the baot as well.

Nice report. I also enjoyed the eating out "critics corner". Always good to hear whats happening around Taney. I use to be down every other month, but I seems like there is more to do as age sneeks up on the guy in the mirror. I guess I'll have to take my own advice and MAKE TIME. Thanks for the info and motivation to get back down to one of my favorite spots on this earth. You can't stay at a better place tha Lilley's.

thanks for the report, we'll be at Lilly's next Monday thru Friday, hope to have some catching. You can have the Silver Dollar City, I will be catching up w/ my son Kyle and enjoying time w/my wife, and sister and her family. Hoping to drift from kayaks, might have to drag a chain anchor. Would that damage the bottom in a harmful way? I don't want to tear the habitat up. How deep is Taneycomo, on the upper end?

Anyway, great report glad you got some. Can I ask what you mean by "pink meat", is that a problem?

Thanks
Jeff

i am not sure that i would consider dragging a chain if there is any currrent at all - then you would not need it if it were not running.

habitat???????

safety!!!!!! if the flow is there ..... you drag a chain and should it get hung up on the bottom and the connected end of the boat could go under water quickly sinking the boat. then you are in deep doodoo.

depth - the gravel bars can be shallow enough to have ruined many props.... many props.

i am not an expert pn kayaks - but i do not believe dragging an anchor to be safe at all.

if the water is running very much at all, i will not even anchor my boat.

thanks both of you for the info. Now I understand pink meat is a good thing.

I hear you on the anchor ubear, I've anchored in moving water, (I'm addicted to the Little Miami River here at home, hence my name) there is a limit to how fast I wold want to actually "anchor", not saying the chains won't hang up, but that is one reason I use a chain anchor, it's more of a drift aid than an actual anchor, unless in still water.

I picked up some additional brownish marabou's in 1/8 and 1/32, as well as 4lb flouro, to try to slim my offerings down. I'm used to 20 -30 lb braid and 4-2 lb leaders is a huge step in finesse for me. I'll have to be a bit more sensitive during my hook set and retreive. :)
