So far I have fished the James River a total of 21.5 hours, and I have fished Panther Creek (a very very tiny creek that runs into the James) a total of 1.5 hours. Im sure that Im doing something wrong or at wrong locations for the James but I haven't caught a single fish. However, in a 25 yard stretch of Panther I caught 7 bass one was a very nice 14 incher in an hour and a half lol. Thats fishing for you, any pointers for the James?
Iv fished it at A highway, KK, Bell Springs, and drove a few backroads (and fished it at multiple bridges) Granted the water was a little high.

I believe that fishing is usually better when there is a full moon. People are more crazy when there is a full moon. Thank God He made fish the way He did so I can have better fishing when people are crazier than normal.

I used to live right off Panther and always ran that creek when i was little, havent been in a while it used to have some holes here and there where you could catch some goggle eyes, I always used a fly rod. At one point some asshole filled in the hole at Wester Slab with gravel using his tractor....But after floods it washed back out. I did go down to where the James and Panther meet and caught a lot of goggle eye there

I've floated the sections of the james from delaware to galena. It seems to me that the fish are pretty scattered, but i've caught some nice ones.

However, there are a lot of public accessible places, and I don't catch too much near those if you are bank fishing. Seems like you need to get away from those.

In the higher water find the current breaks. Big boulders, tops and bottoms of pools, large tree trunks.

Floated hootentown to mccall bridge last weekend, and didn't catch tons, but the ones i did catch were really nice. Absolutely crushed a red wiggle wart. Also caught a few fish on small watermelon red tube. One goggle eye on spot remover jig + trick worm. A smokey rainbow grub is another bait that usually produces.
