stinger160 Posted June 6, 2013 Posted June 6, 2013 I get to make one trip a year to NFOW. Kicked my butt every year so far. Am trying again next weekend. Any advice? Will report back on my return.
Gavin Posted June 6, 2013 Posted June 6, 2013 I'll be down there early next week...Its flowing at a good level...990cfs....It wont be easy to wade but the fishing is usually a heck of alot better when its up.Will probably start with a #6 (black & brown, or crayfish colored) Pat's Rubberlegs and a #12 Rubberleg Fox Squirrel nymph or a Prince...at least 2-3 BB shot. Add lead until you get bit, adjust it for every run. Good luck.
Nortrad Posted June 7, 2013 Posted June 7, 2013 Good advice G., may want to try a Psycho Prince, various colors, on your dropper.
stinger160 Posted June 8, 2013 Author Posted June 8, 2013 Thanks guys! Any suggestions on casting all that stuff, ended up with a lot of tangles last year.
Nortrad Posted June 8, 2013 Posted June 8, 2013 Thanks guys! Any suggestions on casting all that stuff, ended up with a lot of tangles last year. Water haul, roll cast your rig, or slow your cast, open the loop and don't start your forward too soon.
Greasy B Posted June 8, 2013 Posted June 8, 2013 Thanks guys! Any suggestions on casting all that stuff, ended up with a lot of tangles last year. Clean and dress your line, often. Brian Wise Posted June 10, 2013 Posted June 10, 2013 Thanks guys! Any suggestions on casting all that stuff, ended up with a lot of tangles last year. Best advice.....work on your casting before you go to the water. Tangles are going to happen (trust me) but trying to fish and get better at casting is pretty tough. My Youtube Channel
stinger160 Posted June 11, 2013 Author Posted June 11, 2013 What about using a sink tip line to get the depth needed? Using a short leader, 3 ft tied to a pats nymph with a 18 inch dropper to a second fly? Easier setup and to cast? Effective?

Easier setup and to cast? Effective? Defenitely not easier to cast and unless you are used to that type of nymphing setup, probably harder to fish effectively. Flop cast a big indicator rig, very little overhead casting, and you should do fine. My Youtube Channel
