bfishn Posted June 12, 2013 Posted June 12, 2013 Great catchin'! But... ...erronious conclusions. That came off colder than I intended. Poor choice of words on my part. What I should'a said; Walleye don't nest or bed. A female and one or more males get together in a spot, do the spew simultaneously, then swim away. Done deal. If your fish had tail abrasions, it has nothing to do with spawning. And if a walleye in Stockton hasn't spawned by May, it ain't going to. Sometimes they don't. And once again, Great Catch! I can't dance like I used to.
9LB Posted June 12, 2013 Author Posted June 12, 2013 Interesting, I wonder what caused the pinkness/redness in the tails on a few of them? I suppose it might be from hanging out and attacking food in the shallow water. I wished I had shot a pic of the tails.
Stockton Lake Guide Service Posted June 13, 2013 Posted June 13, 2013 agreed bfishn, and awesome you reworded that one!! Nice job 9lb... Now with that said, we had been catching some awesome walleye up until saturday. I had a trip yesterday that was very tuff, the worst i have done in a long time. Has anyone did that good since the weekend? Just wondering the if the fish I was on was alseep or maybe 9lber found them and caught them all (just a joke) Got to hit it again early in the morning so hoping the fishing is better than yesterday. took today off to relax, now that I think about it, guess I should have went fishing. Found this years ago on the MDC site and it is great if you like shrimp cocktail! Just fillet the drum and chunk into bite size pieces, drop in boiling water for just a couple of minutes. Remove and put over ice or in the fridge to cool, just dip them in cocktail sauce. They taste amazingly like shrimp, the texture of drum is about the same as shrimp. If you really want to make them look like shrimp just add red food coloring to the boiling water and the fillets will take on a pinkish color. The only problem with this is now that I know how much I like these they are harder to catch!
Hunter91 Posted June 13, 2013 Posted June 13, 2013 We did that to our northerns last time in Canada. They were gooood!!!
9LB Posted June 13, 2013 Author Posted June 13, 2013 I guess they call it fishing vs catching for a reason...Went out Tue. night and had 0 keeper walleyes and 1 shortie. Similair spots and baits - fish are so funny the jig and minnow seemed to only catch bass last night, Caught the short walleye on a swim bait bass fishing. We did wrangle up about 9 bass, 3 smallies and the biggest about 2.75 lbs. The best fish was caught on the Spook.
