Travis Swift Posted June 14, 2013 Author Posted June 14, 2013 2 pound test and good glasses. Watch the magnet and you will either watch the fish swim up and eat it or it will simply disappear. The water is exceptionally clear right now to
Travis Swift Posted June 14, 2013 Author Posted June 14, 2013 Its not just this stretch it works everywhere its legal on the lake. My favorite strech is Fall Creek to Trout Hollow really. They work very well on a float also, i just don't do that as much. One year at Lilleys i caught quite a few off his dock using a float with them. We just stayed in this area this trip because we didn't burn much boat gas and there was no need to go anywhere else honestly. When i fish them with a float i fish it in the same manner/places and depths that you would use a normal jig and float.
Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted June 14, 2013 Root Admin Posted June 14, 2013 I'm going to try it today. Should be the same as a white jig but sounds like you're having more success than I using the TM. They just put in 15k rainbows so catching should be real good this weekend for everyone.
Travis Swift Posted June 14, 2013 Author Posted June 14, 2013 i threw a white jig one pass and only caught 2 fish. threw the magnet the next pass and caught 15. you have to go slow because it don't weigh much. just watch the magnet and you'll see the fish or you'll see the magent disappear. I'm not affiliated with them at all by the way, i'm just a guy that lives in kansas and gets one week a year down there basically. I've been down there for 28 years so i know the lake pretty well but i'm no pro by anymeans. Before i feel into this magent about 8 or 9 years ago i was a jig and float guy and loved that and i still do love that. I just don't see a ton of posting on here and i thought i would share my experience and try to help folks out. I was able to show some folks at the place we stayed at the same way and they ended up with some success as well. I think this would be an awesome technique around monkey island as well. One year they had 4 units running so we ran down into turkey creek and really did good there to.
Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted June 14, 2013 Root Admin Posted June 14, 2013 Thanks for the PM. Went out and tried it. Drifted the bluff bank well below Sun Valley to Lazy Valley and caught 12 stocker rainbows. They were swarming the lure at times and most of those times they wouldn't take it. Typical. Didn't or couldn't throw out very far or I'd lose track of the TM. Kept it in sight. Disappear and set the hook, just like I fish white or ginger jigs. Have to give it line to get it to sink quick or it'll just float down slowly. Tried white/chart- nothing. Cotton Candy (pink/white) they liked. Can't be much wind or else the surface is too broken to see. I did set the hook on one that I was fishing blind - saw the line go slack. Thanks Travis.
Travis Swift Posted June 14, 2013 Author Posted June 14, 2013 your welcome. pretty fun way to fish isn't it? i love watching them swarm it.
Members go4ducks2 Posted June 15, 2013 Members Posted June 15, 2013 Travis.....wow....those were some real nice looking browns, great color! thanks for posting up a report. I'll be down there 21st through 25th, so I'll post up when I get back. I'll be down there with some friends and they will probably be doing shows and Silver Dollar City, so I may have an open spot in the boat if anybody is interested. Shoot me an email garry830@gmail.com anytime...with a phone number...I check my phone for emails pretty regular. Last year we followed Phil around(incognito....LOL) and he showed us a great spot(unknowingly) and we caught an 8lb brown, 5lb and 3lb rainbow all in the same area streamer fishing at night.
