I go back and forth between 20lb mono / flouro and 65lb braid. I haven't found that perfect line size yet. I fish our local lakes almost exclusively so do to our types of cover and vegetation, would 30lb braid be a bad idea? Learning to like the rig but I need to quit d**king around with line. I've thrown them on 10# mono to 50# braid. I have never lost one even when hung in a cedar 10-15' down. My preference is the 50# braid.

I haven't thrown it enough to be an expert but I think anything bigger than 30-pound braid would be good - more a diameter issue than strength. I use straight braid for spinnerbaits and anything smaller than 10/40 just isn't as abrasion resistant - I think this would be similar for the umbrella rig.

I thought I would be good with #12 YoZuri using my Yumbrella Jr. (less than 1oz) but I lost it on the back cast when it snapped off and proceeded to sink to the bottom of Table Rock.

If I ever go back to one I'll be throwing heavy braid.
