rps Posted June 30, 2013 Posted June 30, 2013 I left Holiday Island early enough to pass Eagle Rock before 5:30. Top water fished the mouth of Panther Creek. 11 fish, mostly small spots but I did score a barely legal largemouth and a 17 inch smallmouth before I moved on. I fished the finger points on the flat between Owl Creek and Rock Creek without success. I was throwing both my Top Dollar and a Mikey Jr. By 7:00 I was walleye searching. Between then and noon I caught well over 20 bass in 21 to 30 FOW. Three would have measured. I hooked 3 walleye. The best was the first, and the one that got off at the boat. The second was barely short and the third was barely legal. The walleye were all between 21 feet and 25 feet deep and hit a slow death nightcrawler. Water temp at HI was 78/79. At Rock Creek 82/83.
Wayne SW/MO Posted June 30, 2013 Posted June 30, 2013 I find the walleye on TR interesting. It seems more and more those in the know can find them. They weren't in the picture, at least to my knowledge, for many decades even though I'm sure a few Jack Salmon got caught upriver. I suppose the upside is there is know uprising by bass fisherman about the food competition. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
Quillback Posted June 30, 2013 Posted June 30, 2013 Thanks for the report, looks like water temps have dropped a bit and we have a couple of more cool days coming.
Members Tully Posted June 30, 2013 Members Posted June 30, 2013 rps, you're fishing my neck of the woods. I live just inside Owl Creek cove. I almost find some kind of action on the point at Rock Creek. Good report and thanks.
fishingaddiction Posted June 30, 2013 Posted June 30, 2013 Thanks for the report RPS. What lures were you using to catch the bass deep, and what type of structure? Born to Fish. Forced to Work.
flyman Posted June 30, 2013 Posted June 30, 2013 Good report. Thanks, bud. I really need to try walleye. Still getting the hang of things at TR and the new boat. Soon
Members op79 Posted July 1, 2013 Members Posted July 1, 2013 I seem to have good luck from big m down to the backbone lots of spots in the trees gills also my brother pulled in a 3.2 gill several short eyes i brought one keep eye 28 in and 2 cats all on dropshot or bottom c-rig live crawler but their big boats makes it hard to stay snag free but from sec... points out past 30 ft they bite off and on all day like a rollercoaster fishin ride ..........! Tight lines all. Orlando
rps Posted July 1, 2013 Author Posted July 1, 2013 The bass hit both the slow death night crawler and a c rig keitech sudden impact 3.5. I was fishing the side of the long point at the mouth of Rock Creek and the points on the flat just upstream from there.
fishingaddiction Posted July 2, 2013 Posted July 2, 2013 Appreciate the info. I don't have any walleye baits, but it sounds like a drop shot with a night crawler would do the job. Good Luck Born to Fish. Forced to Work.
rps Posted July 2, 2013 Author Posted July 2, 2013 I have realized many of you may not know what I am talking about when I talk about a slow death night crawler. this: + 4 feet of 10# line + this: + this: behind a weight (this: or a bottom bouncer) creates a lure/bait effect like this: Fish it at .7 to 1.0 mph Really, it is only an oddball C rig.
