dnj21 Posted July 8, 2013 Posted July 8, 2013 Fishing between 2 & 4pm in Zone 1 yesterday, halfway between two handicap piers up from the falls. Had my back up reel and water bottle on shore and reel was gone when I went to leave. I fished right in front of it the whole time, but didn't notice who it left with. Black 5wt older Bass Pro model, orange line with black sinking tip. In a zip lock baggie. Nothing special, but my only back up. If your kids picked up by mistake or as a prank, pls pm me for return info.
ruthead Posted July 9, 2013 Posted July 9, 2013 Good luck! Our two youngest have been going to Bennett since they were born 13, and 16 years old, and have always been taught to leave things where they lie. My 13 year old two weeks ago saw a pair of waders fall off a truck leaving zone 2 and drive away. A "local daily fisherman" told him to go pick them up that it was a free pair of waders. He turned them in to the park store. Have always told him good turns will come back around. Just so happens a couple days later he left my spinning outfit in zone 2 but went back and it was gone. Some times you get lucky and sometimes not! "Pretty soon we may not have any rights left because it might infringe on someone's rights"
dnj21 Posted July 10, 2013 Author Posted July 10, 2013 What would posses someone to walk off with a reel or your spinning combo? I just don't understand the mentality of some people...... Rhetorical question, I am sure I will never find out. Was hoping it was a kids prank and a parent would see this. Lesson learned I guess, but I hate not bring able to trust people. I leave decoys or lay out blinds in my truck bed during duck season, carry a cooler when fishing and leave on shore and never think anything of it. This will make me think twice.
ruthead Posted July 10, 2013 Posted July 10, 2013 I can't count the times we've found rods, fly boxes etc in the last 17 years of going down there. Always just leave it where it lays. Seems like the last few years hear more about things getting stolen out of truck beds. It's a different world than it used to be! What a shame. Members Piker Posted August 14, 2013 Members Posted August 14, 2013 I don't see the difference between a "prank" and an outright "theft". If it was a prank, they would have let the guy wonder where it went for a few minutes, then immediately give it back. Anything short of that is theft or not realizing people let things lay and use the honor system that it will be where they left it.
fishinwrench Posted August 15, 2013 Posted August 15, 2013 I found a $50, a $5, and two $1's in the road at the highbank once and the temptation to pounce on it like a buzzard on a dead squirrel was more than I could bare. Since then I've had nothing but bad experiences there, they even placed a dammed sewer drain pipe and concrete casting deck right across from where I used to stand and highstick nymphs to sizable bows and browns. The Hindu's were right!
