Hey guys I'm looking at a wilderness systems pungo 12 ft and ascend fs 10 the ascend is about 130 cheaper. Both are slightly used. Is there that big of a difference in tracking and speed. I will mostly be fishing on Springfield lake and the James river. Just getting into kayak side of fishing. Any advice would be awesome.!

Yeah, there really is that big a difference. Those are two very different kayaks. The pungo is narrower, faster, and less stable than the ascend. The ascend is wider, has way more storage, and is more specialized towards fishing.

I've paddled both pretty extensively, and I can say I'd probably go with the Pungo. If you step up to the Ascend D12, I'd go with that.

Yeah, length is always an advantage on stillwater.

Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.

I bought a used 10' ascend for my wife and grandkids to use. I fish out of a Pescador 12 or a Mad River Legend 15. Happy with both of those boats. The Ascend looks like it will fish OK, though there is no way it will paddle like either of my other boats. We're going to the river tomorrow, so I'll give you my thoughts on how it works then.

Love my fs10 tracks straight, easy to load, stable. doubt I'll ever switch. Just a great set up for fishin.

My mistake, the used boat I bought was a Heritage Angler 10'. Seat was so uncomfortable (HORRID!) I didn't even try to fish from it. I think it will be be an OK boat with a better seat that has some back support.

Lol well glad I wasn't leaning towards the heritage 10'. I'm a bigger guy 6'4 230's. I do need some back support help hold my belly up. Haha. But on a serious note I feel like I'm a big enough guy a 12 foot is definitely something ill want instead of the 10ft. If any of you have any yaks with mods and stuff post them up. I love seeing people's mods and getting cool ideas for what I could do to them.

I'm sure the Pungo will be the best choice. It was designed more for stillwater and the Pamlico was more of a river design for Wilderness. The James doesn't really have anything tricky enough to require pinpoint maneuvering.

I have a 13' solo canoe that will turn on a dime and is very nimble, it's also a pain to take up a long hole or paddle in a lake because it wants to respond every time the paddle touches the water. I also have a 12' Tarpon and it reacts differently and takes positive strokes to get it to respond, but it also flows smoothly on stillwater and still has enough maneuverability for most Ozark streams.

the seat on the fs10 is the best part of that kayak. I have sat in it for over 6 hours and could have gone much longer. Also forgot to mention I am 51 years old and have had MANY injuries. Hope you find what your lookin for
