In at Viney at 5:15 off at 11:15, no top water action to speak of a few boils here and there. Caught 1, 14 incher on War Eagle SP in mouse none on jig or stickbait. Went to bluff ends and started drop shot with PBJ finesse worm, caught 9 more blacks with 3 being over 17 inches and 1 16 inch walleye. Fish were very scattered. Good fishin, Duck..

Obviously the ol' White River summer pattern is on ... sum-r-here, sum-r-there. Run bluff ends all day and hope you come up with five decent fish. Sounds like the better bite is down the lake from KC to the dam.

i think your sum-r-here and there pattern is because we have over time forced bass to become open water feeders. the upper end of table rock especially has hardly any timber left, and the off shore stump rows have very few stumps left. therefore, what bass are there tend to just roam in various size packs following bait around. this makes it very hard to pinpoint and locate them, let alone catch them. suspended bass in open water not actively feeding are very hard to get a strike out of. inactive bass that are holding on something are much easier to get to bite.

We are definitely having to change the way we fish, particularly in the hot-weather months, or suffer the consequences of not catching many. The glory days of beating the banks are long gone. I can still throw my power-fishing baits but I've had to significantly adapt my techniques. Used to be a guy could catch good fish up shallow 8-9 months out of the year. Now that's more like 2-3 months.
