I don't know about that. If they stocked decent size trout 14'' to 18'' and typical snicker bar sized ones then I know the larger trout would. They use and still do it in Cali lakes and they have a great summer hold over fishery for trout. So it is possible, but even if they do not hold over I rather see the striper get them than poachers and at least in PC there are rangers.

I like the idea too. It would also take some pressure off the river in the winter and give the catch and eat guys some trout for dinner. Let some of the river trout possibly get a bit larger too.

The other Neat thing about PC would be the AGFC ability to stock it at multiple locations really giving the fish a chance. Put them in the Creek where it flows in from Lake Atlanta, or the Old Dirt Ramp or at Swim Beach. If they changed the stocking location it would give them a chance from striper and fishermen.

Big problem with stocking them the same place is stripers learn that. I use to love being at Lake Skinner or Silverwood when the stocking truck pulled up. You knew within minutes the stripers would be attacking because they had learned every week on this day the truck would be there.

F&F

They stock the Beaver Tailwaters all the time and you never here of trout in Table Rock past Holiday Island and there are very few stripers to deal with in Table Rock.

Stumpy, you don't see it posted or talked about, I know several people who have and do catch holdover on the Rock in summer, I went with them earlier this summer and had a good trip 8 trout for 6 hours but all were 3+ pounds. I have a friend who has caught them. Its just not talked about. It requires lead line 7 colors out and panther martins.

I said I would do it last year on here and DID but it took a lot of asking around and finally getting hooked up with a pair of old guys who do it, part of that was a promise not to tell where so it wasn't much to post about if you cant say anything more than I just did.

Beaver is also not the Rock, Beaver the trout would be forced to migrate more for deeper colder water as there is no cold water influences like the rock has.

It is common to catch trout as far down as Holiday Island both summer and winter and generally they are bigger than the stockers. I work at the Beaver Dam Store and talk to people weekly and year round fishing the river.

What we need now are more striper and hybrid guys chasing those trout eaters out of the river now. :-)

Jim, if you told folks where the best place...I mean...where the most troubled place is on the river, I am sure you would have a lot of guys willing to lend a hand at the control of these trout snatchers. I know I would.

  • I remeber back in the 80's when lake Trout were placed in Greers Ferry (and also I believe Bull Shoals) and there were fisherman who specifically targeted those fish. There were catches of 5-10 pound fish that were made and there were even rumors of spawning that had occured for the Lake Trout. Supposedly there was a bad year of oxygen levels that caused a die off and stockings were halted. I would support additional stocking or would even support donating money for the fish to be reintroduced even if on a limited basis. I have heard in Texas where there are lakes facing a shortage of hybrids and stripers that local fisherman have raised money in conjuction and support with the Texas FIsh and Wildlife to purchase additional fish to enhance the numbers.
