waterpossum Posted July 30, 2013 Posted July 30, 2013 Any random thoughts or observations about this years spawn. I have not been to Stockton recently, opting for Grand and Truman where I am seeing massive schools of shad. MDC usually has a report closer to years end. I remember reading one of the Stockton guides reports that was not too optimistic. My last time to Stockton was in May and I was not seeing the usual amount of fry working the banks. Maybe some of you frequenting Stockton recently can shed your thoughts.
Members jbeenemd Posted July 30, 2013 Members Posted July 30, 2013 Just from a few trips out to Stockton this year, have seen that there is not as many schools of shad back in the coves as there was last year. So food supply seems to be down this year. Can not say much about the spawn. Jackie
straw hat Posted July 30, 2013 Posted July 30, 2013 With the water up in the brush this spring there should have been good survival of the fry. I have also seen a lot of fry around the flooded brush and trees while crappie fishing.
frying eyes Posted July 30, 2013 Posted July 30, 2013 I've been the last two Saturdays and have seen schools of fry everywhere. I think that's why the fishing hasn't been great lately, they have plenty of food right now.
