Took a little trip around Stockton looking for cats yesterday. I was fishing the back of coves where there was water coming in. Caught 4 keepers with the biggest at 3#. Stopped by cc. Man that water was solid mud. The surface was also covered with duck weed. That's those little floating plants you usually see around the islands near the 160 bridge. Water temp was 75. Hartley was clear with a slight stain, temp 80. Main lake at mile long bridge was very green and about 2' visibility. I was fishing around 1 to 3 foot deep for the cats. In the back of one cove I nailed a bass that looked like 5 when he jumped (that means around 4 pounds in reality, lol). That fish was in 2' of water under a tree in the shade. I caught a total of 8 bass but no size to any of them. I hope everyone the best.

Thanks for the report. I'm heading down that way tomorrow. May look for some green fish or brown fish if all goes well.

straw hat-thats about the size of cats ive been catching.I scattered some jugs yesterday morning and caught 2 and lost 1 at the boat.Pulled my jugs in and went across the lake and trolled down to where the lake splits(east of the islands). Was supposed to be off work this week and i got a call while i was trolling saying i needed to come up and work thursday and friday so that cut my day short.I was gonna fish all day but got home at noon.It was nice and calm early yesterday then the wind picked up about 10am.I think i saw 2 sailboats,i bass boat, and one cruiser pulling a tube.I like days like that.Saturday we were trolling in a small cove and all the jetski's were across the main lake and then here come 2 jetski's over where we were at and passed us and went full blast in 20fow all the way around the cove. They knew what we were doing and just had to come over and screw everything up for us.Oh well...summer is almost over. From now on i just want to work Fri,Sat,and Sun and fish during the week.

I was there today until the storms came in. I chickened out and came home. I had 6 greenies on a spinnerbait and 1 brown fish on a jig. None of them came from the backs of coves. They were near or on points.

Those bass I caught were only in the back of coves which had running water after the rain.

OK. What were you using that caught cats and bass?

I am using large live shiners. They are 3 to 5" long. Hit the back of the same two coves today with my wife. What a difference. Could have cut the water with a chain saw. lol We came back with 6 cats. Four of them from 2 to 4 pounds. I usually take the shiners and scrap the scales loose on one side and be sure and wipe the scales back onto the shiner. When he hits the water he leaves a trail of sparkely scales and odor. It really seems to help.
