Members CaptainNemo68 Posted August 1, 2013 Members Posted August 1, 2013 Got a Garcia C3 with a 7' rod and it works great with single lures. However, I had minor problems when I started to use a live bait drop shot rig with the mag break set correctly. It seems like if the rig doesn't have all of the weight concentrated in one area on the line then backlash will start, even when I do everything correctly with my thumb and the reel is set correctly. The weight shift in the middle of a cast with an uneven line weight balance may be causing problems. I was using a heavy rig setup with the distance between the weight and bait about 2 feet. Should I not use the baitcaster with these types of rigs? Thanks
Dutch Posted August 1, 2013 Posted August 1, 2013 Use what works for you. When I drop shot I use real small and light stuff so I employ one of my spinning setups.
MOPanfisher Posted August 2, 2013 Posted August 2, 2013 I have found with that I have to modify the casting method with that type of set up, use more of a long lobbing motion rather than a normal cast, and often loosen up the brake just a little, and even let my old thumb worry about applying just the right amount of extra brake, if I think about it, I will mess it up but my thumb knows the right amount.
Kelroy Posted August 2, 2013 Posted August 2, 2013 I think Panfisher nailed it down pretty good- try slowing down and exaggerating your casting swing. Take it nice and easy and don't try to throw too far.
