Members Zeke Kuehn Posted August 12, 2013 Members Posted August 12, 2013 Two Good Friends and I got to get away and fish the small streams in the Flat tops Wilderness area! Thanks for watching. http://vimeo.com/72066244 "Fish Long and prosper"- John Geirach
moguy1973 Posted August 12, 2013 Posted August 12, 2013 Nice video...I love Colorado. Nice fish handling skills too... -- JimIf people concentrated on the really important things in life, there'd be a shortage of fishing poles. -- Doug Larson
mic Posted August 12, 2013 Posted August 12, 2013 Awesome video. I want to make that trip someday. Do you mind sharing the logistics piece... flights, rentals, etc?
ozark trout fisher Posted August 13, 2013 Posted August 13, 2013 Awesome video. I was up in the Flattops a couple of summers ago. There is nothing like fishing for wild trout in that country. Mic, your only option to fly into northwest CO would be at Hayden. But cost wise you are better to just go into Denver and drive the rest of the way. It's still 3+ hrs largely on windy mountain roads to the Flat Tops from Hayden despite being less than 50 miles as a crow flies. There is no remotely efficient way to get there from anywhere, so the fish don't see a whole lot of flies except in a few popular waters (like Trappers Lake.) It's somewhat more than 5 hrs from Denver depending on where in Flat Tops you go. I'd try the upper branches of the White River, both North and South Fork along with any number of tributary streams.......you probably won't be disappointed.
mic Posted August 14, 2013 Posted August 14, 2013 Thanks. I would love to take a SW flight to Denver, rent a car, and camp or find a cheap hotel... and then fish all day. Maybe I should start a support group. Need a good name though.
dennis boatman Posted August 14, 2013 Posted August 14, 2013 ...anywhere in the mountains is a great trip. I am not very familiar with the Rockies, but have fished the Sierras off and on for the majority of my life, very similar from what I've seen. Can't wait to retire there...4 MORE YEARS!!!!!!! A strike indicator is just a bobber...
Buzz Posted August 15, 2013 Posted August 15, 2013 Cool video. Looks like a lot of fun. If fishing was easy it would be called catching.
