Are walleye pretty common in the James? I caught my first ever walleye tonight on the James up between Delaware town and rivercut. It was a decent sized fish I believe. I sure am glad I didn't stick my fingers in his mouth!

I imagine some of it is a result of the flood. They seem to like flowing water, but not shoals.

There are always a few. I've caught several over the years, mostly small, but still interesting.
