Fished out of Jeb's boat today, I was telling him I believe the fish can read the calendar because they bit like it was August in spite of the 78 degree water. We got 5 bass between the two of us on t-rigged plastics and jigs. We fished a lot of different structure from shallow to deep, bluff walls, fronts of coves, backs of coves, and the middle of coves, just not much going on.

Lots of young shad swimming around, the water in some of the coves around Indian creek is stained from the rains.

Saw lots of striper boats out there between LB North and the dam.

It was 80-82 as the sun rose high at Rocky Branch. Water clarity up to 4ft. A bit stained for that area. Fish weren't biting much at all until later around noon. Every bite was hard earned or luck.

Fish are deeper than people are thinking, I ran the shores in a few spots and nothing didn't even mark fish till I was over 20fow and the bite was in 22 all the way to 35fow. I just keep being surprised by the volume of bait in the Lake. I was commenting to Doc within 5 years beaver will be kicking out many 10lb walleye. The crappie are doing awesome as well.

The fish sure are not where you would expect, I honestly was shocked to see the amount of fish around the 12 bridge / beaver shores area this time of year that's not typically a summer area.

We poked around deep some, just couldn't get them going. I think next time on Beaver it may be time to fish around mid lake brush piles with the drop shot.

I got my crappie fillets in the freezer from a trip to Sardis last month with my uncle. I like a fish fry, but only once every two months or so. Those suspended bass are tough for us cast and retrieve types. Are you seeing any worthwhile top water activity? Didn't see much top water activity at LB north.

Some top-water but so much boat traffic they never stayed up. Midweek you might get them to stay up though with less traffic. What I did see was nice size fish busting, O cant wait for October and cooler water to get rod of some of the rudeness. I actually had one guy in a pooptoon watch me catch a crappie and he ran right over to ask what I caught it on so he could come back later to catch them, I was yelling at him he was running over my line and to move and he said I WANTED TO KNOW WHAT YOU WERE CATCHING THEM ON!

Seriously he thinks I was going to tell him or be nice when he waked my boat and ran over my line and then acted shocked I was a little pissed off. Take your dam tube and loud music someplace else is what I was thinking.

Do these suspended fish key on bait size-- a match-the-hatch mentality? i've got lures that will run to 20 feet deep, but I'm afraid they are larger than what the fish are chasing. The alternative might be leadcore and a small bait or spoon.

I was heading out to see about stripers, but messed up a knee shoveling rock and gravel to fill a washout on the driveway...decided I'd let it heal before fishing, and now you have me thinking crappies and whites. Sigh.
