Members WOZ Posted August 18, 2013 Members Posted August 18, 2013 Any suggestions on campgrounds for "tents' on the lake? And, if I use my float tube near the dam, would I be a candidate for being swamped out is that a no-wake zone? And God promised men that good and obedient wives would be found in all corners of the earth. Then he made the earth round...... And he laughed and laughed and laughed....
podum Posted August 18, 2013 Posted August 18, 2013 There is a state park campground very close to the dam. It's up at Table Rock level, but a short trip down to Taney. Can't help you with the float tube regs. Seems that it would work when they aren't running tons of water (assuming it's legal). I think they are running too much for that right now. I wish I had more time more than I wish I had more money.
Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted August 19, 2013 Root Admin Posted August 19, 2013 I don't know if Cooper Creek does tent camping. They used to.
Members WOZ Posted August 19, 2013 Author Members Posted August 19, 2013 I checked and Cooper Creek doesn't do tents and they referred me to the Table Rock Campground. I'm also waiting on a response from MoParks about using a tube or toon at either of the lakes. And God promised men that good and obedient wives would be found in all corners of the earth. Then he made the earth round...... And he laughed and laughed and laughed....
Dutch Posted August 19, 2013 Posted August 19, 2013 If you want the lower end then there are campgrounds at Forsyth just below the Powersite Dam.
ciRe Posted August 22, 2013 Posted August 22, 2013 I used a tent at coopers last year but they charged me the same price as if I had a camper.
Members WOZ Posted August 22, 2013 Author Members Posted August 22, 2013 Same price?! That stunk. Paid $16 for the campsite at meramec springs but the additional $8 charge for a reservation beefed it up to $24. At least I got a site next to the water.... And God promised men that good and obedient wives would be found in all corners of the earth. Then he made the earth round...... And he laughed and laughed and laughed....
Wayne SW/MO Posted August 22, 2013 Posted August 22, 2013 I don't know of any rules concerning float tubes. Safety would be the biggest concern and I wouldn't want to be too close to the dam. If you don't mind a little drive, the area around the old Coombs Ferry access gives you lots of small coves and a good flat to fish. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
Members WOZ Posted August 22, 2013 Author Members Posted August 22, 2013 Thanks for your concern Wayne. That's something I will definately have to keep an eye on! Wayne SW/MO Posted August 22, 2013 Posted August 22, 2013 Actually the whole shoreline from the dam to Bear creek doesn't offer much protection from traveling bass boats. Not that it would prevent you from fishing, but yeah, staying close to the shore line would be prudent. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
