Two Nights , Twenty Miles Of River And A Couple Of Fish...tr

Spent the better part of three days floating approximately 23 miles of one of the Ozarks smallmouth fisheries this past weekend.
The Fall weather was perfect and surprisingly the crowds were light on the section of water we floated. We caught good numbers of chunky fish but nothing breaking the 18" mark , these fish were well fed and spunky for their size so no one was complaining regardless. All of my fish came on large streamers fished with a sinking line , it just worked for me so I didn't change.
A great trip that I hope to do again before the weather changes for the worse , there's just something about floating a river and camping on a gravel bar that washes away all of your problems...

Man awesome Blog, I thoroughly enjoyed reading that! Those were some healthy smallmouth for sure. I got into flyfishing for smallmouth myself a few years ago, an 18 incher on a 4wt is heaven on earth for me!! Congrats on a great trip!

There's no such thing, as a bad day fishing!

Yeah, we're in Montana again for a while, but when we get back to Missouri my wife and I are planning a 4 day trip in November, probably on the lower Buffalo. Problem with late season trips is that it's short days and LONG nights. We did the lower end of the Buffalo in early November one time, taking three days, and had to do a lot of paddling during the day to cover the territory we needed to cover because we just didn't have much daylight time. This time I'd like to do the same trip but take at least four days, and maybe five days if the weather forecast is good.

Great report,

I tend to piss and moan about what I perceive as problems on Ozark streams but I have to admit we have float trip camping experiences that are second to none.

I know you're not geneticly programmed to slow it down a little Al as far as miles per day go. I enjoy taking a break and lookin' up as well as down. Hope you and Mary have a great trip together. I enjoy floating with my wife so much. It's about as peaceful as I can feel. I've seen otherwise... ;)

Oh, I can slow it down in November, and I can slow it down on the lower Buffalo. As an old bass fisherman friend of my dad said one time after floating the lower Buffalo when Dad asked him how the fishing was:

"Hell, I couldn't hardly fish because I was too busy lookin' around with my mouth hangin' open!"
