What do guys feel is the best marabou for wrapping/ palmering? I am not too happy with the strung marabou I have. Also do you tie it in by the tips?

Thanks in advance.

If fishing was easy it would be called catching.

For me, it depends on what you are tying. I've been able to get away with the strung Marabou and I tie it in by the tips.

Thanks DaddyO. I'm tying a streamer that has a hackle tail then wrapped marabou and a crosscut rabbit zonker strip for the front of the body. I used some strung blood quill marabou that I had, but I didn't like how short and stiff it was. The fly looks good and I'm sure it will work.

All depends on the quality of the marabou. I've found on the strung marabou I have there are only so many feathers that will be decent enough to actually wrap. They're in there, you just gotta take the time to look.

You can get the "Extra FIne" marabou from Metz I think that is much longer and more supple. The packs I have contain about 8 feather that are all 6- maybe 9 inches long. Makes a huge difference when you need to really cover some space. Also- Montana Fly Co.'s strung marabou has proven to be much better on average (IMO) compared to some of the other stuff I have.

Marabou has taken a turn for the worse in the last couple of years, but there is still some pretty solid material out there.

Break the tip off and tie in at the broken point, that way you don't lose the shorter material as you wrap up the hook.

I use marabou plumes not the strung stuff. Its a must for bass sized flies...Tie in by the tip, and fold it as you wrap.

Thanks for the advice guys. I'll be getting some marabou plumes soon. I'll try both of the suggestions for tying it in next time.
