Jason R. Posted January 8, 2015 Posted January 8, 2015 Thanks! Yeah, I tied up a handful this weekend to swap with a buddy. And yup, took the pictures myself. I'm still trying to find the best applicator for 2 part epoxy. I've tried q-tips and toothpicks, but I just cant seem to get a good even coat without blemishes. It probably doesn't help that I don't have a wheel or dryer, so I just manually spin them on the vise. Get you some SolarEZ and a light. It is so much easier. Worth the 20$. http://flyinthesouth.com/
bs1827 Posted January 8, 2015 Posted January 8, 2015 I have considered going the UV resin route. Is there any way to save money on the UV lights? Are there other aftermarket lights that anyone would recommend that are a bit cheaper? While I am on a budget, I'm not opposed to spending money for a quality product. Just looking to see if anyone has found a cheaper alternative.

I have used CCG a little and honestly the applicator and packaging is far better but the actual goo is very similar. I think I paid 7.50 for three 2 ounce tubes of solarez and 12 bucks for a light (which works but isn't quality.) http://flyinthesouth.com/

The solarez resin is good, but prefer something with a better applicator, and will usually come in a bigger tube. I've heard nothing but good things about the loon UV.
ruthead Posted January 9, 2015 Posted January 9, 2015 Any body use the HMG hot glue system? Thinking about venturing down that road. "Pretty soon we may not have any rights left because it might infringe on someone's rights"

You all might want to go over onto the Flytying Forum and look for some posts from a guy who goes by "silvercreek". He is a Dr. who has developed and sells a line of UV resins and lights. Everyone who has used them claim they are the best on the market and not overpriced like some. Check out his various posts. His undergraduate degree was in chemistry and he knows what he's talking about. I haven't ordered from him yet but plan to.
Lancer09 Posted January 21, 2015 Author Posted January 21, 2015 Over on flyfishfood they have been throwin down some pretty slider flies. I gave one a go. I'll definitely turn a few more of these out.
