Quillback Posted October 27, 2013 Posted October 27, 2013 It would be interesting to hear those stories. Would have made a heck of a multiday float trip.
Wayne SW/MO Posted October 27, 2013 Posted October 27, 2013 Well I fished the White one time before TR on a Scout fishing trip. I was about 14 I think. I'm not real sure where, but it was just upstream from the James. The reason I know this is we were told by the adults that if we had more time we could have fished the James which was just downstream. There isn't much else for me to tell, we didn't catch much but a few small fish. I think most of us wished we had stayed longer at Roaring River. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
exiledguide Posted October 28, 2013 Posted October 28, 2013 My dads cousin fished after WW11 with guides and overnight camping once every summer with his Navy buddies until the dams were built. He had quit fishing by the early 60s most of his group had passed away or had family to take care and he said there were too darned many people on the water and it wasn't fun anymore. They fished in long river jon boats with guides and there was only one bait to use on the and that was Helgramites. They also used tubular steel rods. I wish I would have talk more to him about the white river..

KCRIVERRAT Posted October 28, 2013 Author Posted October 28, 2013 Saw the vid Fishslayer and really enjoyed it. Lookin' forward to the pics. Wished I could've floated the White and James before the dams went up. One can only imagine the scenery. Wayne SW/MO Posted October 28, 2013 Posted October 28, 2013 About how far was that float fishslayer? I had a True Temper steel rod when I was younger. They were fairly common and there was another steel rod, can't remember the brand, that was square and I believe they were solid. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
Fishslayer88 Posted October 29, 2013 Posted October 29, 2013 Usually 7 days the cotter trip may have been a little more here's one of the old maps of the floats and camp sites
