rps Posted December 8, 2013 Posted December 8, 2013 The OA forum includes many people knowledgeable in areas I am not. Thus I pose a scenario/question seeking advice. Today I noticed that along the front of my house, water was seeping, in more than one place, from the seam where the vertical exterior wall meets the soffit, That water was then freezing as it oozed down the wall. Directly above that point, the snow on the roof was visibly melting. Am I correct I have an insulation and a roof leak problem? Is it time for one or more repairs? What do you suggest as a start point? Thanks in advance.
Feathers and Fins Posted December 8, 2013 Posted December 8, 2013 Randy, it sounds like an Ice Dam has formed. If the roof is not properly installed I.E. starter shingle, felt and drip edge it will build up and work its way in. The drip-edge needs to be installed, felt over the drip on eaves and under it on rakes the starter shingle needs to 3/4 inch overhang. Its difficult for me to tell you without looking at it what the problems is. I'll shoot you a PM. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Beaver-Lake-Arkansas-Fishing-Report/745541178798856
Hog Wally Posted December 9, 2013 Posted December 9, 2013 Also, gutters and downspouts freeze solid when the roof melts off and goes into them usually I see this in houses with insulation or ventilation issues. Look around and see if everyone else around u still has snow. Then u kinda know u have something The lowest point of a gutter is the back unless they have adjusted there seamless machine from the factory setting.
