mhowerton Posted December 14, 2013 Posted December 14, 2013 A buddy and I have started the tradition of going on a wing shooting trip each year. The past 4 years we have gone to South Dakota. Next year we are looking to do something a little closer to home. While there is a lot of activity on this board I wanted to get some suggestions on a home base (hotel, cabin, campground) for hunting Mid- Missouri ( 4 Rivers, Schell, Truman). Also anyone have any other suggestions on a good location for a freelance duck trip. Thanks. Feel free to PM or email info howerton.matt@gmail.com.
Feathers and Fins Posted December 14, 2013 Posted December 14, 2013 Matt, 4-rivers is a lot of fun you can get a motel in Nevada then drive out to it in the morning about 20 to 30 minute drive then depending on where you want to hunt factor a 20 to 30 minute walk in. Freelancing I doubt people will give you locations they are pretty heavily guarded and I would be leery of any location given out if your not real good friends with the person. I can give you this suggestion, get out and look around with binos and maps, look at the creeks and rivers they will be great when we have weather like we just did day 3 of a freeze the rule is be on a creek or river. You will unfortunately have to scout those areas in warmer months for vegetation and its such a pain in the butt being on some of the best smallmouth bass creeks isn't it. The other thing that is not secret is go to MDOC and AGFC website and download the KMZ file on their ( where to hunt ) section of their website. This loads in to Google Earth and highlights and outlines the public areas and will link you to them and the rules for them. Good Luck. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Beaver-Lake-Arkansas-Fishing-Report/745541178798856
mhowerton Posted December 16, 2013 Author Posted December 16, 2013 Scott, I have hunted 4 rivers several times. Real neat place. I think I am going to try to find somewhere to stay to the east of 4 rivers so we can scout/hunt Truman also. My wife's family lives in KC and making the trip up 13 I always tell myself I would like to try to find some ducks out there on Truman.
jdmidwest Posted December 17, 2013 Posted December 17, 2013 We have done the Schell Osage trip the last few years on reservations, stayed in El Dorado Springs. Never had a problem getting out the other days we did not have reservations either. You could hit Truman or Stockton, 4 Rivers also from there. It is a fun area to explore.
