Bitethis Posted January 12, 2014 Author Posted January 12, 2014 so when I go to looking at reels, is there anything specific you guys think I should look for. I imagine if I get into flyfishing like I did in MT, I will use the rod for trout, as well as White Bass. I know less about the reels than I do anything else.
Wayne SW/MO Posted January 12, 2014 Posted January 12, 2014 Given the fact you have to put something together I would look at Cabelas Prestige Plus or Premier. Good drags for the money and if you watch you'll probably find them on sale before spring. If you're just thinking whites and trout I would think 5wt, maybe 6wt. The white season isn't long enough or dependable enough to dictate rod choice. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
duckydoty Posted January 13, 2014 Posted January 13, 2014 I have broke many a 5 and 6 wt rods fishing for whites. They are just one tough fish on the fly rod. A decent drag is important for the whites. Wayne is right about the season not being dependable. Some years you can start getting on them in Feb. 1st week of April is my favorite week to fish for them. The spring floods can end it all real quick.
