Feathers and Fins Posted January 16, 2014 Posted January 16, 2014 Honestly I would rather be fishing then meeting lol. This time of year though im finishing up hunting, and cleaning all my tackle and organizing the boat for fishing season, meetings will get in the way of preparation for fishing lol. As I said before I don’t do “clubs” I don’t like mandatory meetings which seem to be part of some clubs. I don’t like mandatory events you must attend ( some you aren’t told are mandatory but iif you don’t make them you are looked down on ) I sure don’t like ego’s that come with so many clubs I have seen. I hate banquets where drinking goes on. I can go on and on with so many things that put a bad taste in my mouth. Not saying this club is one of those but for me clubs are not my cup of tea. Now there are good ones, the club I was in Florida was awesome, great people but the founders set it up where they had final say-so on everything. They had a board but had ultimate say-so. Reason was to allow the club to function but if the constitution of the club was infringed on in any way that went against it they could stop it. I watched them both throw members out who gossiped about other members or bad mouthed people and were fast to kick egomaniac out. They made certain that the two charity events happened each year even if it meant paying for it themselves and they made certain that in tournaments they stayed about fun. I remember one tourney where a couple guys had some tactics questioned, another captain went to confront them and he was ejected from the tournament as the rule was simple ONLY the officials could bring up rule infraction and their final decision was final. They kept the club clean and beyond reproach on tournaments and the meetings were educational. Banquets had a O alcohol policy. Both guys only stepped in when forced to otherwise it was the will of the members and all issues voted on had to be approved by ¾ membership vote then approved by the founders to be certain it was in the guidelines and constitution of the club. Interestingly one of the founders moved the other passed on a couple years after I left and within 2 more years the club fell apart because of drinking, egos, fighting / arguing etc. I do not envy any club officers who try to keep a club legitimate and to me I would rather just go fishing now and enjoy it and peoples company that go with me. Fishing is suppose to be fun. I have enough frustration trying to find the fish and make them bite I don’t need more rules and mandates on something I do for enjoyment. Im sure we have all seen bad clubs or heard of them, I know this club is about stripers and keeping them in beaver and trying to teach members and I support that goal. If the club helps people and they enjoy being in it that is awesome and I wish them well, my only concern is unless its brought up here I really never hear about them or what they are doing so not much inof on them and their website really doesn’t tell me much either. Hate to say it but that commercial about a companies website is true. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Beaver-Lake-Arkansas-Fishing-Report/745541178798856
