Members 1MO bowhunter Posted January 17, 2014 Members Posted January 17, 2014 I want to start by saying a big thank you to Phil and the whole crew at Lillie's Landing, especially Curtis, who was nice enough to loan me a few tools to change out a couple fouled plugs. This was my first time staying there and am already making plans to go back. I have only fished Taneycomo once before by boat and that was 20 years ago, so there was a bit of a learning curve, and I am by no means a writer, so please bare with me. We arrived on Monday 1/13/14 and basically just settled in and got the boat in the water. Fished off the dock in the evening for a little while with no luck using gulp eggs white/orange and white/chartreuse combinations. Tuesday morning we woke to overcast skies, a little bit of wind and even a few sprinkles with highs in the 40's. We drifted from the end of the trophy area down to Lillie's and both managed to catch a few fish. It did take a while to learn the difference between the taps of the bottom and a bite, but got easier the more time we spent on the water. In the afternoon we faired much better hooking up with several fish. My buddy was steady landing fish while I was missing more than I care to admit, i did manage to catch a rock though and got it in the boat, that was a first for me! I finally figured out to set the hook a little more aggressively and that solved my problem. We fished with white/orange and white/pink egg combos with pretty good results, I tried minnows and had a few bites, but the floating eggs out fished the live bait this time. Wednesday was clear and colder with highs in the 30's and windy. We faired much better, both of us catching our limit of fish worthy of the dinner table with several 13"-14" fish in the mix. The white/pink egg combo seemed to be the ticket to triggering the bites. Once again we drifted between the trophy area and Lillie's. We both had an excellent time, learned a lot, and cannot wait to go back. Thanks Phil, for offering the fishing buddy deal and I wanted to let you know that you have a top notch staff there. We'll see ya soon! Chris
