Guest Posted February 15, 2014 Posted February 15, 2014 I've got dual tanks on a 1986 Ranger 375V. It has a metal handle to manually switch tanks. What's the easiest way to drain the old gas? It's 18 months old & smells like hair spray.
fishinwrench Posted February 15, 2014 Posted February 15, 2014 Your '86 shouldn't have an anti-siphon valve, so all ya gotta do is remove the fuel line coupler from the fuel hose and use the primer bulb to siphon it out. If by chance there has been a anti-siphon valve installed you'll have to replace it with a straight 3/8 nipple. The A/S valve looks just like a nipple but it has a ball&spring seat assembly built it in. When your fuel tank is situated below the powerhead, like in a bassboat, then you don't even want it on there, remove it and don't put it back on. Pontoons and deck boats where the tank is above the engine are what a/s valves are designed for.
Guest Posted February 15, 2014 Posted February 15, 2014 I removed the ball valve fitting on the end of the fuel line. Then I proceeded to pump the bulb, no gas flowed out. I bought a hand operated transfer pump from autozone just in case. Wrench I'm not smart enough to know where the AS valve sits. I can take more photos. Thanks
fishinwrench Posted February 15, 2014 Posted February 15, 2014 Follow the fuel supply line back to the tank. The "nipple" on the fuel pickup fitting may be a A/S valve nipple. Remove the hose, unscrew the nipple (usually 9/16 deep socket or wrench) and see if it is a simple hollow nipple....or a nipple valve. If there are 2 tanks and one has a a/s valve then I'm sure the other one does also, so you'll have to swap both if them. Not a big deal, the straight nipples are cheap at your nearest auto parts store. Just take the valve with you to match up the threads and grab some teflon tape while you're there. Gimme a buzz and I'll talk you through it if needed. 573-569-5406
Guest Posted February 15, 2014 Posted February 15, 2014 Wrench it's done. Everything works. Motor runs good. Old gas looked good enough to run weedeater n chainsaw. The water stream was weak at first, so it might need an impeller. Other than that, it's almost ready for the water. Gotta fix the aerator and transducer bracket. I saved a good chunk of money doing it myself. Thanks for the advice!
Guest Posted February 17, 2014 Posted February 17, 2014 She liked that 98 octane, ethanol free gas! Its expensive but I only burned 4 gallons today. Another great day in the Ozarks!
