Walleye In The River?

Well...if you like fishing in chocolate milk, today is a great opportunity. I hooked one walleye, not on my walleye rig but on a jig on 4lb test and had it on for all of about 9 seconds before I got a head shake and a cut line. Other than that, nothing. From talking to everybody else on the water, we had more action than most.

Man, I honestly might try to save it and go another day. The river was like chocolate milk. Visibility was 8" maybe. We fished for 3 hours and I hooked one walleye at Dollar Hole/Walkers Bluff but it was on 4lb test and a white bass jig. It cut my line in a matter of seconds. I talked to maybe 10 other people on the water and we did better than most. The vast majority said they hadn't gotten a bite.

There is a lot of debris still floating as well.

Usually, when the crappie start biting on Lake Sequoyah, the Walleye are starting to move...I know the two bodies of water are unrelated but the movement seems to coincide. I have a friend who was catching some absolute slabs on Sequoyah before the snow hit, so that tells me it is getting really close to time.

I caught a bunch of Males yesterday 16 to 17.5 inches I know they are males as I had to wipe my boat down yesterday messy little teenagers lol.

Thats an interesting take, I certainly hope the slab crappie start biting again soon.

Does the river need to settle down before the bite picks back up?

I'm thinking about putting the canoe in at two dollar hole and paddling to lake end of the river , any good recommendations on a crawler harness ?

It has been my experience that the amount of water is not necessarily a problem, but the color definitely is. I ended up not going Saturday or Sunday because the coloration of the water was like coffee with a touch of cream and there was debris everywhere. I went and looked at it both days. I am planning on going on Sunday evening this coming weekend to see if I can find any walleye. It seems, though, that when the water is up like it has been, the fish will go ahead and move and the fishermen just won't know about it because we can't get anything to them they can find in the dirty water. I understand it is an interesting take in regard to the two different bodies of water and two different fish species becoming active about the same times, but I have tracked it a few years now and it has proven to be true thus far. When my friend starts catching crappie on Sequoyah in mid-late february, the walleye are moving into the river.

The west fork at molly wagnon appeared to be clearing up, now a stained look vs muddy.

Its still moving pretty strong, but not flood stage strong.

Lets hope this week's rain is light compared to last week.
