fly2fish Posted December 18, 2006 Posted December 18, 2006 I met Leonard 1 night last month when I was switching from flyfishing to spin fishing by outlet 2, I showed him what Rapalas I had and he said go with the black and gold 2" floating version, I caught a small one on the second cast and right before I left caught a 25"+ brown, I had hits on about every other cast. This was at night during a storm. If they are running a fair amount of water use a countdown or sinking Rapala.
Fish Bork Posted December 18, 2006 Posted December 18, 2006 Yep my best colors are gold and silver floating #5 rapalas. Time flies like an arrow. Fruit flies like a banana.
kelly Posted December 18, 2006 Posted December 18, 2006 Rapala's are the ticket, the more gold the better. And don't be above trolling them either. I have caught my biggest browns trolling above Lilleys. I personally like suspending lures as I have caught a lot of them during a long pause in my retrieve.
jdmidwest Posted December 19, 2006 Posted December 19, 2006 Try a Shad Rap SSR 5 in Crawdad or Gold color. Runs shallow, not on top like the Rapalas. Try a Little Cleo spoon in gold or red/gold. Members bubbaray Posted December 19, 2006 Members Posted December 19, 2006 What size line and sure would one use with the Rapelas?
Leonard Posted December 19, 2006 Posted December 19, 2006 I have 2 rods I use for rapala fishing (jigs, sculpins, ext) 1 I have 6lb maxima on the other is 8lb maxima (I use this at night) if the fish are hungry the line doesnt matter!! http://www.taneycomonights.com
kelly Posted December 19, 2006 Posted December 19, 2006 I use four pound Trilene XL in green. If I am fishing large lures like six or seven inch Rogues or at night I use heavy line like twelve or fifteen pound. I don't do that so much anymore as I have a lot more fun with the smaller lures. I catch way more fish on three inch lures that suspend. I yank or crank them down a few feet then pause every ten feet or so for as long as you can stand it. This is a lot of fun under the cable with the water running because the fish don't seem to waste any time hitting it once they make up their mind. Good luck Kelly
