Members 3hounds Posted March 17, 2014 Members Posted March 17, 2014 I've got 5 guys going from baptist camp to Pulltite. We start Friday around noon, end sunday about noon. Does anyone know of an affordable person to jockey 1 car from Baptist to Pulltite? Also, based on the rain, we should be good with loaded canoes/kayaks up at baptist, right? Thanks!
jdmidwest Posted March 18, 2014 Posted March 18, 2014 Looking at the river gauge, it is lower than a normal avg. year, even with a little push of rain this weekend. We have had some snow this year, but avg rainfall is really down for the winter. It just looks soggy because of the ground being frozen underneath and water standing on top. http://waterdata.usgs.gov/mo/nwis/uv?site_no=07064440 I would check with a few of the float camps around to arrange a shuttle. Akers or Pulltite may be up and running now for a shuttle. "Life has become immeasurably better since I have been forced to stop taking it seriously." — Hunter S. Thompson
3wt Posted March 19, 2014 Posted March 19, 2014 Wow, how is it low this year? Maybe lots of frozen precip, but slow cold melt causing a long delay in discharge?
awhuber Posted March 19, 2014 Posted March 19, 2014 Wow, how is it low this year? Maybe lots of frozen precip, but slow cold melt causing a long delay in discharge? We are 4-5 inches down on precipt this year. It is summer low for sure. You will have to drag loaded canoes above welsh in spots.
jdmidwest Posted March 20, 2014 Posted March 20, 2014 It takes alot of snow to make an inch of rain. And it soaked in. Things are actually coming up around here, creeks and rivers are flushed and full. Most of the precip we have gotten in the past few months is thawing out of the ground now and coming down the hillsides as runoff. The Montauk gage was showing below average discharge. Gavin Posted March 20, 2014 Posted March 20, 2014 It is just a couple inches above summer low. If you are headed to Pulltite call Current River Canoe. That is 45 or an hour long shuttle, one way. Won't be cheap.
Members 3hounds Posted March 20, 2014 Author Members Posted March 20, 2014 Thanks everyone for the feedback---this forum is wonderful! We got it all figured out---the jockey is not cheap but the Current River is worth it! The USGS gauges look pretty good and Friday looks like a perfect day. Thanks again--I hope there is some wildlife abound. We saw 4 otters, 1 beaver, about 100 bald eagles and turkey, and 2 coyotes when we were on the Jack's Fork over Thanksgiving--my expectations are high! I love Missouri!
