I have been watching the weather and know things are behind to say the least. Posts are indicating people up at point 12 on the 18th, so it makes me think to catch fish I may need to put my boat in up stream near war eagle. I am staying on Mundell Road, but no problem putting in further up the lake. Want to catch a stripper, but ready for walleye and crappie too. So up stream? or are there places closer to the dam that I should fish? Thanks for your input.

I would say start around point 12 and work it from there. Water has come up 2 1/2 ft since last saturday. Not sure how that will change things. I would think that would help them find which way to go.

Geez, it is a haul from the dam to war eagle I would guess. Any thoughts on the route and I wonder if I could leave my boat there? Otherwise, can we catch anything near the dam? Walleye, crappie? More or less it sounds like the lake is slow to fishing until the fish spread out a bit, but crappie don't have to make the move. I would guess warm gravel banks if the water temps get to 50 degrees will produce. What about walleye?

If you want a Striper you will have to make the run, they are concentrated from Monte Ne up the river. Walleye you can Launch at Houseman access below the dam and try for them in the tailwaters down to Holiday Island. Crappie will be moving up to spawn but you are in the deep water section of the lake and it wont be as good as areas up lake. I honestly don't even think about fishing the Dam area until June/July. Especially if I am wanting Striper... There is a possibility to get walleye on the dam this time of year but be ready to loose more gear than hook fish.

It is the best fishing of the year just because the south end of the lake is smaller more like a river then the North end so the fish are easier to find and the "deep" holes are 30 feet not 200 feet. You are just on the wrong side, look at Hickory Creek if you want a full service Marina on that end, great people and camp ground. There are always guides hanging out around the marina willing to share information.

If you are up at the darn, I would look at the tailwaters of Table Rock like Fin and feathers said but a stray hybrid is the biggest fish you will find but whites and walleye make up for that.

Around the deep end of Beaver beading smallmouth are your best bet, that deep water stays colder longer.

I have found whites running to the Dam at times but nothing like the run down in the white river.
