Members ADD-Fishing Posted March 26, 2014 Members Posted March 26, 2014 F&F has on occasion mentioned his use of an Aqua-Vu underwater camera as well as some suggestions as to how to protect it. I can really understand how this tool can help a person become much more capable and confident with understanding what ones 'graphs' are showing you. F&F, do you or does anyone else with experience using these cameras have any advice as to which model is the most cost effective? As with any techno gizmos, there is always a newer and better (ie:more expensive) one on the market, but often times the new features while nice are just window dressing. However sometimes the new features can be really helpful. So in short, I'm simply looking at this as a tool to help me become a better graph reader. Any help would be much appreciated.
Stump bumper Posted March 26, 2014 Posted March 26, 2014 I have a cheap black and white version that has shed light on a few spots for me. The problem with mine is it doesn't tell you what direction the camera is pointing and scale is really hard to judge. But I did have areas that I have looked at that were much different then I expected. One bluff wall I thought had rocks on it and thought the fish were hiding in the rocks, turned out to be full of holes and there were two or three bass per hole. Looking at deep ceder trees always yields something, but never got were I could see across a dock and that is what I bought it for, so I would would recommend a better one than the base black and white one I got.
Feathers and Fins Posted March 26, 2014 Posted March 26, 2014 AV Micro is the one I use and on the clear end of the lake I can see about 10ft... Reconditioned units through AQ are about 150 bucks... Stumpy Put on a 200pn downrigger cable it will help directionalize it for you, also prevents flatheads and stripers from taking it for a ride, beware smallies they really like it for some stupid reason. Another option I use to know for sure which way it is looking is to attach it to my retractable decoy retriever, only good for 20ft but most times that's all I need anyway. You want to see a real cool thing hit up Monte ne when its clear. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Beaver-Lake-Arkansas-Fishing-Report/745541178798856
