Tuesday was the first time i had everbeen to taylors. Let me know how you do saturday if you get the chance to go. Maybe ill see you down there sometime.
Members Rick Baker Posted April 3, 2014 Members Posted April 3, 2014 I'm still a newbie and have only been out in mine 4 times. Where else do you go in your yak? Just curious.
Members FrozenFingers Posted April 3, 2014 Author Members Posted April 3, 2014 A place that I like to go is springfield lake. Usually we dont go out on the main lake but more of the river part. There is a little boat ramp that makes it easy to put in to thats not on the main lake. Water is usually perfect for it slow current. I wouldnt say fishing is great but in the summer we catch bass every trip. Ive seen people catch a lot of crappie to if you can find the brush piles.
Members Rick Baker Posted April 3, 2014 Members Posted April 3, 2014 I've been there twice with it in the past two weeks. Got married at that boathouse and the wife and kid love to walk the trails while I get a paddle in. I went from the boathouse to 65 and back on Sunday. Not far but it was windy. Can't wait to get back down to tailors bridge and go after some whites. I caught a very nice walleye below tailors bridge last year as well. Seemed like it was early or mid April.
Members FrozenFingers Posted April 4, 2014 Author Members Posted April 4, 2014 I found that if you keep going past 65 bridge the fishing gets better, in my opinion at least. I hope within the next week the whites will be running. I want to see what all the hype is about.
Krazo Posted April 4, 2014 Posted April 4, 2014 I dont have a lot of experience fishing for whites on stockton, but isnt this late in the year for them to be running up the rivers? I know water temps are the key and this was a cold winter, but dont the whites normally head upstream during March?
Members FrozenFingers Posted April 4, 2014 Author Members Posted April 4, 2014 Ive only fished there once. From the iformation ie gathered and hearing the locals talk down there it should be soon and they will be running up the rivers. Sounds like some males have already made the run.
Members Rick Baker Posted April 4, 2014 Members Posted April 4, 2014 It was early April when I stayed them last year. It's a lot of fun. When it gets late you start catching the occasional crappie, catfish, lm, walleye, I even caught a huge carp on a minnow. Frozen fingers there is a omtc kayak fishing tourney coming up at fellows weekend after this coming. I'm not competing but gonna go down there and see how everyone is rigging the transducers on their fish finders. It's on Facebook if your interested.

Last year I caught limits or near limits of whites in the rivers from 3-31 thru 4-21. Starting a bit later this year, but the white bite could run right up to may this year, imo.
Wayne SW/MO Posted April 4, 2014 Posted April 4, 2014 Pretty much the normal time. Some years when the weather and water is warmer males seem to start earlier, especially the younger ones, but this is the time for the main run. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
