Crappie 7 April Bridgeport Area

Got on the water today about 8 a.m. with my buddy Ryan. Temperature was 42 degrees and raining. We started checking brush piles and the 1st one we pulled up to had fish on it. Caught a couple of keepers and a bunch of shorts all on jigs then it just shut off. It was like that all morning. We would hit a brush pile and catch a couple of keepers right off the bat then a few shorts and then nothing. We kept hopping brush piles all morning and even threw at the bank some picking up a few keepers. Most fish seamed to be suspended 6-10 feet deep around the MDC brush piles with a few randomly caught in 2-4 feet of water on the bank. We ended up with 2 limits by 1 pm. Things are really looking like they will be shaping up good for this weekend!

thnx for another good report Ducky. A buddy and I plan on putting in at Cape Fair tomorrow afternoon and fishing till dark. I hope we do that good.

Those are going to be some nice fillets. I'm heading down this weekend and typically fish for bass, but it would be nice to get into some slabs. What did you catch these on or what do you prefer to use?

I'm not a crappie expert, but by the looks of their tails, I do believe several of those fish have been fanning beds. Would you agree?

I would think so. Some of them look a little beat up and got some red in them.

Thanks. Yeah, we really got into some big ones. The next couple of days are gonna be great fishing out there if anyone can get out there to fish.
