WHARFRAT Posted April 18, 2014 Posted April 18, 2014 I'll be down for a whole week starting tonight. Going to be a lot of fish swimming around with sore lips after I get done with them. I keep a few though. Appears to be fairly stable weather for the upcoming week, so thats good. If ya see the Ranger RT188 poachin in your waters, don't shoot! @lozcrappie
Members crittermo Posted April 18, 2014 Members Posted April 18, 2014 wharfrat, have you heard what the latest crappie report has been? i stay up at the 5mm of the main channel and i will be fishing that area later today, i haven't found too much help on what the current pattern is for crappie. water temp at the 5mm is 52 degrees and i heard the water is pretty clear. good luck i think the weather should be great for the next week.
WHARFRAT Posted April 18, 2014 Author Posted April 18, 2014 a guy at our condos said he found water in the Big Niangua in the mid to high 50's. He mainly a bass chaser, but he told me people have been doing pretty good, sides and backs of docks and moving close to the bank. Smaller white males for the most part. Fairly shallow and near large sunken logs. He also said they are starting to move into their normal spawing locations. He says its hit or miss on the white bass. But they are starting to come around. He did catch a couple of eyes while throwing crankbaits. I would imagine by mid-week, water tems will be in the high 50's to the low 60's.. Plus there's a full moon. Sharpen your filet knife! @lozcrappie
nomolites Posted April 18, 2014 Posted April 18, 2014 61 on the North Shore this evening; the day started at 53. Caught nice fish on shallow wood early and suspended at 12 ft after sunup. Long casts as the fish are spooky in this clear water.
Members mosttoyswin Posted April 19, 2014 Members Posted April 19, 2014 got here about 5 pm. just fished the condo docks with minnows until about 7. kept 8. largest 13 inches most around 11. they were 2-3 feet down under the dock floats. water temp 54 I'm at the 12 mile marker. several people were fishing nearby with jigs but not having much luck.
WHARFRAT Posted April 19, 2014 Author Posted April 19, 2014 Update this morning. Crappie are winning this game right now. Haven't found a pattern. Did catch a 14" hog female, and a couple approaching 12 inches. But it was very slim. A few of the white males showed signs of getting dark, so it shouldn't be long before they are all over the banks. Water temps were 59 by Bridal Cave, and 60 by my condo. @lozcrappie
nomolites Posted April 20, 2014 Posted April 20, 2014 Still scattered and suspended on the N Shore; scratched out a limit of decent fish trolling cranks in Racoon Hollow. Couldn't buy a fish on pea gravel with jigs.
Old plug Posted April 20, 2014 Posted April 20, 2014 Crappie sometimes remind me of Purple Martins inspecting a nesting site. They come in like they are checking the spawning area out and you can hammer them. Then they drop off for awhile and come roaring back later for the spawn. I always expect that.
