Members KansasBoy13 Posted April 18, 2014 Members Posted April 18, 2014 So I bought a very nice 94 Nitro yesterday and has a single rod locker. A rod locker was a deal breaker so this was very important to me and when I get it home and start putting my rods in it the first one wont fit(7' rod) and was about a foot short maybe more from fitting. So I lean into it and look down and there is piece of about 1/2' thick plywood that runs completely across the boat. Any ideas what this is for or if it can be removed or cut holes in it to slide rods through? Worried that cutting holes in it may fray my line. The curious thing about it, to me, is that the wood doesn't go to the top(about an inch gap or less) in the rod locker and in the center storage its about a half inch from the bottom but goes to the top. This is the best photo I could get of it.
Nitroman Posted April 18, 2014 Posted April 18, 2014 I can't tell you if you can or can't or should or should not. My guess ( & IT IS JUST A GUESS ) is that it is a brace for the front casting deck. As far as fraying your line, go to a golf shop ( MAY FIND THAT A SPORTING GOODS STORE LIKE ACADEMY CARRIES THEM ) get some of the plastic tubes that slide into a golf club bag ( GOLF CLUB SHAFT SLIDES INTO THE TUBE ) cut them off @ whatever length works best, drill holes in the plywood slightly larger ( TUBE SHOULD FIT SNUGLY INTO HOLE ) than the OD of the tube, slobber some good glue on them, slide them in place, let them dry, your done. Call " SHARKY " ( KEITH SINKCLEAR ) @ 1-417-243-5164 @ the BPS ( BRANSON ) TRACKER BOAT CENTER & ask him if you can or can't or should or should not !!!!!!! fishinwrench Posted April 19, 2014 Posted April 19, 2014 Tell me that is NOT a factory carpet job. Here's something a little more important than a short rod box on a Nitro, and you might want to check yours.... If your water pressure guage is mounted OVER your key switch like in this '96 Nitro then I recommend you swap it for one of the guages on the other side. If the w/p guage ever springs a leak while your running down the lake it can shock you HARD! That Black/yellow wire at the key switch (kill circuit) carrys enough voltage to kill you when the engine is running. A gentleman that came in my place yesterday took a pretty hard hit and almost lost control of the boat.
REDSOXWSCHAMP Posted April 22, 2014 Posted April 22, 2014 that is something that i wasnt even aware of
fishinwrench Posted April 22, 2014 Posted April 22, 2014 Lots of things to consider when designing and rigging a boat (that's why we get paid the big bucks ) Kinda surprised that the designers at Nitro dropped the ball there. Probably the biggest goof since "12/24/charge" switches on the bow.
REDSOXWSCHAMP Posted April 23, 2014 Posted April 23, 2014 I HAVE SEEN A FEW OF THE 12/24/CHARGE SWITCHES

Probably the biggest goof since "12/24/charge" switches on the bow. mine works fine....once I rewired it to an on/off switch.
fishinwrench Posted April 24, 2014 Posted April 24, 2014 Oh they always "worked".....up until they caused a fire.
Bird Watcher Posted April 24, 2014 Posted April 24, 2014 Oh they always "worked".....up until they caused a fire. I've found they melt and the terminals fall out for an emergency disconnect of sorts before that happens on my boat.
REDSOXWSCHAMP Posted April 24, 2014 Posted April 24, 2014 HEY WRENCH, HAVE YOU RUN INTO A LOT OF FUEL RELATED ENGINE ISSUES LATELY?
