Members Luckyj Posted April 25, 2014 Members Posted April 25, 2014 I have a cast net and I am good with it. What I am trying to find out is WHERE do you find shad this time of year on Beaver Lake? Paying $1 a piece is a little steep in my opinion especially for only 2-3" ones LOL Any help pointing me in the right direction would be appreciated. Thanks guys. This should actually be titled shad/shiners. I am not looking for someones honey hole. Only looking for info on what I should be looking for area wise. Best I can tell I can use cast net or cages, and I have both, so thats not an issue.
Members crkoester Posted April 26, 2014 Members Posted April 26, 2014 Shallow flats in the very back of Prairie Creek, Avoca or Coose Hollow. That's where you always see the striper guides netting them up. Oftentimes you may only see larger gizzard shad back there, the threadfins are hit or miss, but the water should be warm enough at this point they should be around. Chris

Feathers and Fins Posted April 27, 2014 Posted April 27, 2014 What CR said, I will add, if you are in the back of prairie creek you will want to familiarize yourself with the area there are several large concrete blocks back there and other net eating obstacles. Avoca is ok until you get to the very back and then there is a few stick-ups. Coose is clean. Monte Ne is also a good place to get bait but there is some tires that will grab a net and the remains of chicken coops. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Beaver-Lake-Arkansas-Fishing-Report/745541178798856

Members Luckyj Posted April 27, 2014 Author Members Posted April 27, 2014 Is using the small 2 x2 box traps any good for the shad/shiners? I have one for mud minnows I used on the coast and it worked well. If so, what bait is generally used for the shad/shiners. I used cat food for the mud minnows but found raw bacon to be the BEST. But it is expensive LOL
Feathers and Fins Posted April 27, 2014 Posted April 27, 2014 Castnet... only thing you will get in a box is maybe craw's https://www.facebook.com/pages/Beaver-Lake-Arkansas-Fishing-Report/745541178798856
