I've got more fly rods and reels than I know what to do with. If you want one I'd be glad to let you have one of them. My wife would be grateful - she's been giving me a hard time lately about all the fly fishing "clutter".

I agree with Terry that your shakespeare rig is plenty good enough to start out with but you'll probably soon want something a little better.

Just let me know if you are interested. I'm planning on coming down to Taney on Monday if the weather is decent and will bring a rig if you want it. If not - no big deal.

Regarding fly tying - I would take a few lessons from a fly shop if possible. That really cuts down on the learning curve. I'm sure you can learn a lot from some of the people on the board that are coming to the gathering on Mon. Same with fly casting. I taught myself years ago but it was pretty hard. My wife and son took lessons a couple of years ago and it was much easier for them. Most fly shops will help you out there. And Bass Pro offers free lessons as well.

Welcome to the wonderful world of fly fishing. I hope you have as much fun with it as I have over the years.

This is Mrs. Ducky (Tami) and I'm a little confused. How do I tie a half hitch knot around the eye? Does it really matter what kind of knot I use if I secure it with fly cement? And is bread raw toast or cooked dough??? :D

That one is a little hard to explain but if you will take the thread and and wrap it around your 2 fingers then pull the thread back fver the back of the hook then take you two fingers and wrap the thread around the eye of the hook twisting while you do it. Make 3-5 wraps then pull with the thread that is in the bobbinstaright back that will tighten the knot. Or they make a tool called a whip finisher that you can use and it works perfect, a little frustrating on learning the tool but very effective after you learn the tool.

Good luck and like they have said in the past do not be afraid to ask.
