Wayne SW/MO Posted September 2, 2014 Posted September 2, 2014 I saw some of his Show and Tell and franly he looked lost and behind in the pass defense drills. Playing in the SEC he was never more than a little above average. He was often a factor, but it was against college linemen. To be a real prospect a college defensive lineman has to own the opposition linemen, with the exception of the outstanding ones and he has to hold his own there. Sam never really dominated, just beat them more often then many others. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
stlfisher Posted September 2, 2014 Posted September 2, 2014 Sam, had most of his production in 3 games last year and disappeared in quite a few games against the better competition. He is a pass rusher that is it...nothing else and his competition for the last spot played better and can also play tackle. He just wasn't good enough to make the Rams roster...that is all. That being said I am Sam fan and I hope he gets picked up by another team, but he is a borderline NFL player...kinda like 4a in baseball.
Chief Grey Bear Posted September 3, 2014 Posted September 3, 2014 Selling jerseys doesn't win games. Not that they will win much anyway. They are the Rams. Wow, I didn't realize that. Thanks. Looks like he is headed to Dallas for the practice squad. Not they know much about winning either. Flysmallie Posted September 3, 2014 Posted September 3, 2014 Looks like he is headed to Dallas Not they know much about winning either. That's sad. Not about Sam, but about Dallas. I don't think that can be fixed. Well it can, he's just not going to. Â Â
Chief Grey Bear Posted September 3, 2014 Posted September 3, 2014 I'm not a Dallas fan but from what I hear Romo is a got to go go. And Jones need to keep his nose out of it. Let the the people you hired to run it, run it. ozark trout fisher Posted September 3, 2014 Posted September 3, 2014 Eh, I don't think anyone is really even making the accusation that the Rams cutting him has anything to do with anything besides football reasons. Their D-line was too crowded. That's it. That said, while he had most of his production in three games, I would point two things out: a. He was really dominant in those three games, including against a very good Vanderbilt offensive line. b. He had a less pronounced version of the "Clowney effect" going on where teams schemed around him, thus reducing his opportunities for production. I don't know whether he'll really "make it" though obviously being picked up by the Cowboy's practice squad is good news (he's going from a team with the majority of its talent along the d-line to a team almost entirely bereft of talent anywhere defensively.) But the bottom line is he's getting as good of a chance as any other player with his ability level. That's all I wanted to see.
Wayne SW/MO Posted September 3, 2014 Posted September 3, 2014 That's sad. Not about Sam, but about Dallas. I don't think that can be fixed. Well it can, he's just not going to. Surely you aren't implying that Jerry has anything to do with that. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
ozark trout fisher Posted September 3, 2014 Posted September 3, 2014 Yeah, Dallas will suck as long as Jerry Jones is the owner. With that said, this is a potentially smart football move for them. Their defensive line is AWFUL and if Sam is just okay they could potentially get a decent backup for essentially nothing. If not they cut him and it costs absolutely nothing (I don't think Jerry Jones is sweating a $6000/week salary.) There will be someone else lining up to take his practice squad spot. Zero risk, plenty of potential reward.
