You really CAN say whatever the heck you want (pretty much) and you're not going to go to jail for it. That's where the free country part comes in. You may well suffer other consequences though, as people are starting to learn.

Yep, that's basically the point of what I was saying- in three sentences instead of five paragraphs. :)

i feel deceived by Sam. I believed him when he came out and said that he just wanted to be a football player. Now he's proven the opposite, that it's all just a big show. I originally thought that he would make the team, but this Oprah thing has changed my mind. I don' think the rams want that distraction.

I don't think he can just be a football player. And I don't think Michael Sam "owes" us anything. If he wants to make a quick buck on a reality show with Oprah (knowing that he might get cut before he makes any real money anyway) then that's his decision. Do I think he wants to make a point, along with just being a football player? Absolutely. I don't have a problem with this. The Rams might, which could turn out to be a problem, but that's his problem. I don't see how he has wronged anyone else.

I worry about him, but since he is a former Mizzou player, I'll continue to support him. Honestly, if we are gonna be pissed at a former Mizzou defensive lineman for being in the news for non-football reasons, why aren't we all talking about Aldon Smith? That dude has a rapsheet longer than this thread, and yet it's Sam that everyone is talking about as "selfish" and an attention hound. It shows how messed up priorities can get at times, when someone like Sam (who by all accounts is an intelligent, all-around good human being) is seen as a villain while there are plenty of people that truly match that description lining up alongside and across from him.

Geez OTF. He CAN just be a football player. Hell if he wasn't from Mizzou you wouldn't have anything to say.

X2 on that

He might be learning. I just read some quotes where he talked about his childhood in a small town and how sports took him to college, to a degree and on to the NFL. No mention of anything else.

Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.

Hard to do when they keep sticking microphones in your face.

It's the media creating the circus you so despise. It's not like he keeps hosting news conferences.

Can't disagree with that. And actually it's not the circus but the media I despise. But they run the country so what can I do.

The reality show is a bad move by Sam. There might be a time and place for it, but this is not it. Someone mentioned feeling a bit deceived and I kinda feel the same way.

I guess he is making the most of the attention he is getting, but I don't see how it won't be a distraction for his teammates.

OTF, I love ya man, you bleed black and gold as much as anybody. But, I almost do feel like he owes me something. I was the guy sticking up for him, telling everybody that he wasn't doing it for money. Telling everyone "hey, it's not like you have to watch him make out with a guy on TV, so what's the big deal? he just wants to be a football player." WRONG. If this was some guy from LSU I wouldn't care, but he's one of my guys, and he lied to me. So for me he goes down with Aldon Smith and DGB and others as Mizzou guys that have let me down.. I understand the guy is just trying to make a buck. But, what would you think if he had come out his junior year at Mizzou? Do you think it would have been a distraction to Mizzou football to have Oprah and the 3 ring circus parading around Faurot Field every Saturday afternoon? Exactly why Pinkel made it stay in house.
