Members fishful thinkin' Posted May 12, 2014 Members Posted May 12, 2014 hello all, I am new to this website and also new to Beaver Lake. I consider myself to be a semi decent crappie fisherman. by my standards at least. I have been out on Beaver Lake several times now, and have caught know crappie to speak of. I know that if I can just find the fish I should be able to catch some, I was just wondering if anyone would be willing to sharesome of their crappy hotspots. I usually launch my boat at the highway 12 bridge as I live close to there. but I would be willing to put in anywhere in the lake I needed to to be able to find a fish. I'm not looking to steal anybody secret fishing spots, just looking for hopefully a few guaranteed bites. anything anyone is willing to share would be greatly appreciated. thanks in advance, and I'll keep reading the other post as most you guys seem to really know what you're doing.
npierceuark Posted May 12, 2014 Posted May 12, 2014 I can't say I have any one spot that consistently produces fish. It seems to change day to day. I fish the river portion of the lake from the confluence of the war eagle and white arms down south to the Goshen area. I focus on transitions with cover. Flat to a channel, bluff to chunk rock, rock to sand/mud or any of those combos with a laydown or brush. Docks will hold fish as well. Pretty much every time I go out I end up burning half the day trying to figure out how and where they are biting. I am new to crappie fishing and by no means an expert, there are crappie out there but they aren't the easiest things to catch. I would recommend booking a trip with a local guide that could really show you the ropes. PM me and I can give you a name or two
Members fishful thinkin' Posted May 12, 2014 Author Members Posted May 12, 2014 Thanks for the info, I usually stay reasonably close to the highway 12 bridge, I guess I should try further south and see if my luck changes. I keep telling myself I'm not going to hire a guide and just learn the lake the old fashioned way....tons of practice. Too much pride I guess. Eventually not catching any fish greatly out weighs pride though so I may take you up on your offer.I really appreciate the reply and I will put your advice to work, I only get to go fishing about 2 times a month but when I go it would be great to fill the boat. But just being on the water getting some bait wet is great. I always say my worst day of fishing is still better than my best day at work. If I find any honey holes I'll be sure go post them. Thanks again for the help. This is a great site, I'm glad I found it.
J-Doc Posted May 12, 2014 Posted May 12, 2014 Welcome to the forum!! :-) If you're launching from the bridge, there are lots of spots to check in that general area. As npierceuark stated above, it changes from day to day. Hiring a guide is an awesome opportunity and I know JTCrappie has literally hundreds of brush piles on this lake. He doesn't care if you fish them or not. They will load up the next day if they are producing. I would look for fish around the islands by the 12 bridge. Lots of places to look there. Stump bumper Posted May 12, 2014 Posted May 12, 2014 Between the Islands there is a cove with a big brush pile it is easy to find just note where you see the pontoon boats tied up every time you pass between the islands. I don't fish crappie much but seems the guys who come in with them either troll or stay close to big brush piles. Those pontoons that stay in one place for hours will lead you to the brush. During the summer months under the lights at the horseshoe bend Marina is a favorite place but always a few boats there to compete with.
Feathers and Fins Posted May 12, 2014 Posted May 12, 2014 12bridge... area look for crappie suspending over the flats this time of year they will suspend in 7 to 15 fow in 20 to 30ft bottom depth. Islands are a good area to look as are the docks north of 12 bridge... Beaver shores is another great place to look for them suspending. I catch more suspended crappie on Beaver than in brush or cover unless im up river then they like cover. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Beaver-Lake-Arkansas-Fishing-Report/745541178798856
Members fishful thinkin' Posted May 13, 2014 Author Members Posted May 13, 2014 I'm so glad I found this forum. Most people nowadays would sooner give you their debit card pin number than tell you where they fish, much less how or with what bait. Like the lake is going to run out of fish. I truly appreciate all the helpful info. I hope I can be as helpful once I learn my way around this lake. Thanks to all.
