cpriest Posted May 19, 2014 Posted May 19, 2014 Hey guys, I am looking at purchasing a small boat to fish a 2-3 acre pond. Looking for something simple, most important thing is stability and room for 3 people. First thought is a basic 10-12 John but have seen several mini pontoons out there as well. In a perfect world what would be your suggestion?
E Green Posted May 19, 2014 Posted May 19, 2014 I saw something called a pond prowler that looked perfect IMO.
E Green Posted May 19, 2014 Posted May 19, 2014 Not sure of brand or any details though... It was a few years ago when I saw it on an ad. I will search and see if I can find it. I think it was like a mini pontoon style though.
J-Doc Posted May 20, 2014 Posted May 20, 2014 I have a small fiberglass boat for sale. Probably way way more boat than you're wanting but it's a solid fishing platform for up to 3 people and you can fish big lakes with it. I'm saying this because for the price you pay for a qualitypond boat, you could have a more versitile rig equipped with fish finders, storage, etc. If interested PM me. This is obviously not a pond boat but jus tthought I'd share just in case. Never know. Sorry if this is no help. Need marine repair? Send our own forum friend "fishinwrench" a message. J-Doc Posted May 20, 2014 Posted May 20, 2014 If a Jon boat, get the widest you can afford. Much more stable. Fitting up to 3 in a Jon is not impossible but not comfortable by any means. Usually requires a Jon big enough for a 20 horse outboard. Need marine repair? Send our own forum friend "fishinwrench" a message. He will treat you like family!!! I owe fishinwrench a lot of thanks. cpriest Posted May 20, 2014 Author Posted May 20, 2014 J-Doc, much more boat than would fit in this small farm pond, not even sure how I could launch it! But I appreciate it, especially as I am in Fayetteville.
J-Doc Posted May 20, 2014 Posted May 20, 2014 If it was a pond boat just for one to two people, I would say one of those little Pelican plastic boats is a darn hard to beat little boat. But for 3 people, that takes it up a notch. Way up. Yep, launching mine in a pond isn't really an option. Just probing. Lol. I got a brand new boat on order and wife won't let me keep two. (Nuts) Mini pontoon just might be a deal to look at. Just limits you to small waters. Need marine repair? Send our own forum friend "fishinwrench" a message. He will treat you like family!!! fishinwrench Posted May 20, 2014 Posted May 20, 2014 3 people actively fishing is a pain even in a 20 footer.
Clay Goforth Posted May 20, 2014 Posted May 20, 2014 How about trying to find a used ganoe or gheenoe? If you aren't familiar, it is basically a canoe with a flat gunnel for mounting a small motor or trolling motor. One of those with a 45lb thrust trolling motor would be killer on a pond, and you could use it to float creeks and rivers as well.
