Members Luckyj Posted May 20, 2014 Members Posted May 20, 2014 I know on your report you stated using the Bobby Garland Baby Shad. I have also been using those with so so success for the last 2 weeks. I have been fishing with them free lined and also using a 1/32 oz normal round jig head. I have also tried using them on a marabou jig and caught small ones and small whites. I was wondering if you could lend some assistance as to the proper fishing and rigging methods to use for the baby shad? This is my first time using them. I have been using these colors: Monkey Milk, Blue Ice, and Pearl White. Thanks for any help you could lend.
Feathers and Fins Posted May 20, 2014 Posted May 20, 2014 Pearl white is all im using on the same jig head you are. I am just trying different speeds on the retrieves and depths. Saturday they wanted it very slowly crawled along the bottom, week before it was at mid depths. My biggest asset is paying attention to my electronics to locate them and then figuring out the presentation needed. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Beaver-Lake-Arkansas-Fishing-Report/745541178798856
Members Luckyj Posted May 20, 2014 Author Members Posted May 20, 2014 OK thanks! I am still working on those same items but not having the good fortune you are LOL But working on it! I just want to be sure I am not missing doing something out there LOL
Feathers and Fins Posted May 20, 2014 Posted May 20, 2014 Don't get caught up in the one technique mentality, If it isn't working change it up may only take a twitch of the rod a pause of the reel any number of things and be confident every cast is a fish. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Beaver-Lake-Arkansas-Fishing-Report/745541178798856
Members Luckyj Posted May 20, 2014 Author Members Posted May 20, 2014 Well right now, I believe I am switching things up too fast and not giving things a chance to work their magic. But I may be wrong LOL
Feathers and Fins Posted May 20, 2014 Posted May 20, 2014 are you fishing active fish or just fishing an area you marked fish on the graph? When I start the day I like to pull flicker shad for a few hours, I will mark where I caught a fish and go back over its a couple times. When I hit an area that produces 2 or three fish I know I have actively feeding fish and then I switch to the Bobby Garlands for crappie or Keitechs for Walleye and Bass. Its all about finding the active fish and the graph will help you find the fish the flickers will tell you the species and if they are active and then the other presentation will fill the live-well. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Beaver-Lake-Arkansas-Fishing-Report/745541178798856
Members Luckyj Posted May 20, 2014 Author Members Posted May 20, 2014 Mostly just fishing the fish I have marked on the graph. I have not been very successful at the trolling yet. I have been using flicker shad and trolling live bait but I think I have got 3-4 fish on them but not one keeper LOL So I am still working on that part. My fish finder is a low end on so does not pick up the high def things yours does. And that could be my problem.
Feathers and Fins Posted May 20, 2014 Posted May 20, 2014 This time of year the flickers are just a fish finder, im locating the depth, location and type of fish then switching to more effective means of putting numbers in the boat. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Beaver-Lake-Arkansas-Fishing-Report/745541178798856
Members Luckyj Posted May 20, 2014 Author Members Posted May 20, 2014 It doesn't sound like I am too far of base anyway! LOL Thanks for your help!
npierceuark Posted May 20, 2014 Posted May 20, 2014 as f&f stated every day is a different battle and the fish want different things. While he was fishing the rocky branch area I was fishing the war eagle marina area and I was using the same bait but vigorously jigging in 20 fow 10' down over fish on brush. That was the only way I could coax a bite. Day before that they wanted it perfectly still 1' off the bottom. They love those little baby shad but they want it presented in a very particular manner depending on their mood.
